well i just bought this car not running. i went and looked at it before and she told me the story that she was just driving one day and it just died. So first thing i check is the ECU. i pull that out and it smells horrible. My friend gave me a 1991 GSX ecu ( this was before i realized that the 1990's are a lot different) so i plug his in and try to crank it. it slowly cranks but still nothing.

So i decide to pull the stock ECU apart and found 1 cap to be half way melted off. so either I'm gonna fix this one or buy a new one.

i then decide to just do good replacement stuff (spark plugs, oil, oil filter, etc...) well when i pull the plugs out they are DRIPPING with fuel. I'm like WTF. so we disconnect the fuse for the injectors, and disconnect the fuel pump and start cranking it. I swear it was at least a gallon of fuel that came squirting out. (looked like Old Faithful).

My question is this, i figure all the fuel in the cylinder is because of all the times i and her tried to crank it when the ECU was bad and the cylinders just filled with fuel. Now do you think its more than the ECU, am i doomed with someother head problem down the way??? Should i just get the new ECU and see how that goes? any advice would be great.

see what u where doign is cranking a dead motor not getting any spark so it was just dumping i had my ecu go one time and i did the same when i got a new one it ran better then before so try that if not look into ur spark plugs wires coils stuff like that but if the ecu is mested up then what the winner so let me know how it goes chris

well im waiting on a new ECU (trying to find one). my new question is this: Can i use a 1990 GST ECU for my ECU?? they are the same year both dont have ABS but its a GST and mines AWD??? is there any ECU difference between the 2? fast helpwould be greatly appreciated

i am sure there is but u never know with these cars u canb put different parts from alot of things on these but try it if not u can always turn around and sell the gst for an awd but i would try to get an awd to be safe thanks chris

Yes, They're not 100% the same but close enough that you won't notice the difference.

Assuming it's a California car the original ECU would have been a MD145902 and the MD128623 FWD ECU will work as will either of the two Federal ECU's MD145903, MD128625 but you may not pass CA Smog with them.
