I have just recently purchased a 97 eclipse gst and today i was driving along and all of a sudden a CEL pops up. The car was still running fine and nothign seemed different. Curious to what the light was on for, i drove the car up to Advance Auto Parts. They hook it up to the machine and the guy sad it was the egr vavle. Now when i got this car the egr was already blocked and everything, but i know the egr vavle isn't a sensor and doesn't have any wires ran to it. Could anyone explain the problem i might be having, or why my check engine light is on???

its an obd2 car its tryin to check its emission controls and it is failing, by not haveing the egr on the car is producing to much NOx ... and in turn throwin the check engine light because the egr helps to get rid of NOx

The EGR is actuated by a solenoid, which is monitored by the ECU. The halfwit who thought he was making some performance improvement in blocking the EGR valve apparently pulled the solenoid as well. This will bring on a CEL.
