I would go with the .45ACP over the .40 SW. I've fired both in the XD and the .45 is a lot easier to control. I currently have a .40 SW XD service model, and I've put about 5000 rounds through it as well. They're very reliable pistols and easy to maintain.

Yes, California limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds, which sucks, but I figure if you need more rounds than that, you should have grabbed a rifle

ok, so i went to the gun shop today to talk over the gun and what is legal and what isnt.

For some reason the .45acp is not legal in cali yet for the 4" black and bi-tone, however the green and the earth one are...?
The 5" .45acp is legal in cali in black.

This confuses me, i dont see why one color is legal and one isnt...?

Im going to go to another couple of gun stores and see if they can get me a .45acp bi-tone 4", hopefully the guy that i talked to is retarded or something.

I will settle for a .40 bi-tone, but i have my heart set on the acp. I dont like the 5" tactical model either.

Trijicon night sights are $90 installed, but he doesnt sight them in, he said they are drop in and as ling as they are centered they should be accurate, is that correct leet? Coming from someone who did the install themselves?

FFL import and registration at this spot is $70, so if i can find what i want online i might go that route.

Im going to go check out one more gun shop tomorrow in SF and my friend reccommended a shop in san mateo, so im going to try to get the legality of the gun figured out... the way the guy explained to me is that they have to cert each caliber in every model and it costs $3000+ to do so, so they arent that fast at doing it.

I prefer TruGlo TFO's over the Trijicon's. They have Tritium inserts for low light situations, and fiber optics for day time situations. I've used both and I just prefer the TFO's.

You have to sight in all sights, iron or optical. You want to bi*** about sights, come spend time with me at the 1k range and have to adjust for wind

TRUGLO's are a nice sight as well. Pretty easy to see the dots regardless of lighting also. I didn't see the need for the fiber optics as when it's light enough out you should be maintaining a focus on front sight tip. At night all you can see is the dots pretty much, besides everyone around here wanted more for the TRUGLO's. The TRUGLO sights are also a bit longer in length.

With that being sad, this was my first handgun and I only plan to use it as for home security and for a side-arm (concealed of course). I love how the gun sits in my hand and contours it. So after looking at what I wanted out of a gun and consulting others I purchased the M&P and have no complaints thus far.

And as you already said about the 17 shot take down. That was my point that the 9mm will get the job done.

Love my XD40, I have the 4 inch version with the ported barrel, my gf has the 3.5 compact version. Amazing gun for the money. I did just break down and install the crimsontrace laser grip on it. Not really needed but its fun, it also has helped me teach her to shoot since you can dry fire and aim at a wall inside your house and use the laser as a teaching tool.

Dude, with handguns, you have to go with what YOU like, what feels good in YOUR hands. I'll give opinions all day on certain features and all that cool stuff but in the end, it's your money, spend it as you see fit.

And my tax return is $700, so i have some money for a safe and some bullets!

Cant wait, my pops is SFPD and he's in charge of the guys at the range and they approved it so my dad approved me getting it so its on now baby!

Im going to try one more place, my dad is going to see if they have a Police discount. If not $575 was right in my price range.


I just went to the gun store today and my friend bought a Sig 229 two-tone 40sw. It was used but factory cert. from sig with a 1-year warranty. $700

I just got done bedding the action on my .223. Once I get everything perfect on the stock, I'm going to paint it in a desert digital camouflage pattern. I'm cutting out the stencils as we speak

Thought I'd post up my new toy: Springfield XD 45, I love this thing. Nice heft, it has a good feel to it and nothing beats 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP

I got my xd-40 bi-tone ordered up. I pay for it monday then have the 10 day wait and its all mine! I think im going to order up the accessory kit (3 extra clips and carry case ) its only like ~$40 shipped.THen some golden saber hpj for the home defense rounds.

What do you guys recommend for a good "inexpensive" (cheap) .40 s&w round to buy in bulk to shoot at the range? I'll probably go and shoot like 100 rounds per outing. I saw cabelas sells bulk "reconditioned" rounds. 300 for like $90, 600 for $175 and 1200 for $335. They had pretty good reviews and a few of em were from xd owners. I am going to shoot some of the golden sabers to make sure they load and fire fine, but those arent going to be my every outing bullets.

That's what I use for practice. 230gr FMJ. They are about 36 dollars for a box of 100 rounds at the local Wal-Mart.

Military calibers are up in price, you know, we're slinging a lot of lead all around the world.

Sights are never drop in, just like car parts. Every gun sights in differently, not just by boresighting but by how it actually shoots. If some revolver jockey tells you that sights line up by being centered, trust him as much as a Mitsu dealer.

Legality in California might have its issues, but you can still own guns there. DC doesn't even have that. Best advice for you is to move out of that worthless state.

Pistol barrel length in CA does not matter, however for long arms there are limits. You cannot buy or import high capacity magazines in California legally. Colors do not matter on any type of firearm, Hell, I'm redoing my .223 in digital desert.

You are correct, you don't just drop in sights, you have to align them with the path of the bullet I used it as a term for installation, not zeroing. I only use boresighting as an initial start, after that it's tweaking away at sight alignment (or reticle position).

California's politics are pretty much bullshit. However, I do love the land and weather here.

Well i bought my gun from a SFPD officer who does gun sales and FFL stuff on the side and he told me the .45acp SAXD is illegal in cali. I dont know why, but i heard it from 3-4 sources now so whatever. I got the bi-tone in .40 and im happy with that for my first gun. I'll save the .45acp for a real 1911 style handgun. I still want to get a baretta shotgun before next years Waterfowl season starts.

Do you guys recommend any lasers? I dont want one to be cool or make my gun a rice rocket haha, but this will be my first time really getting into shooting so i want to see how i handle the recoil and try to make my shooting as steady as possible. ("make my point")

Your SFPD officer is full of shit. I bought mine in July and every gun store around here currently has them in stock in black and bi-tones.

Why you would take firearms advice from an SFPD officer, I'll never know. People there don't want anyone to have guns.
