I'm just curious if you all live in such terrible places that you need to carry a gun on you?

I just want to know so I don't live there.

It does not matter were you live, Bad shit will happen! I live in a town of 10K people and just a couple of years ago about 3 miles outta town a Family was cut up with a Axe. People who think we do not need or have the right to protect our selves and that only military and law enforcement should carry are living in a illusion of safety. Cops are not around all the time, nor will they always be 2 blocks away when you call for help. I have had someone try to steal my car from me at a rest stop and this is in MONTANA! Had I not been carrying I would have been stabbed and laying there bleeding to death. I trust no one, I do however believe before you can buy any firearm you should have to go through training to be able to carry said firearm. Now back on topic, I carry a nice Colt .45ACP I have had not problems with the concealment factor. A rule of thumb is if you do have a concealed weapons permit and are carrying. While you are in your vehicle put it someplace were it can be quickly drawn I carry mine right in between my seat and console. Had it been holstered when I was assaulted buy this piece of road trash that tried to take my car (Not my DSM) I would not have been able to react in time to draw it from a sitting position. I advice you is try out a couple different compact firearms till you find what you like. My dad carries a .38 snub for concealment. I don't I hate them so very much.

Two great guns. I actually sold my xd-9 to get a 220, but I opted for a sniper rifle instead, savage .223 with 24x42 scope. It can read the letters of a business card at 100 yards.

Oh, and Verbalkint, where did you get 15 round mags for your xd-40, all I could find for mine were 12 rounders.

I like the rem 700 myself and my bushmaster v-match. I also like the xd-9

Police Supply.

All you have to show is a badge and Officer ID Card.
In Arkansas, at least, i know private citizens can NOT carry hi cap mags. 12 to 13 rounds max.

May be a bit different where you live.

On duty, it's not so concealed, but off duty, I almost always wear a jacket. It lays quite comfortable under my left arm, right up against my ribs.

With the correct ammo, it's a supprisingly accurate pistol.. At 35 yards, i can tap group shots within 4 inches of each other.

Most of the other officers carry 9mm's. When we are doing tac training (Usually entering a mocked up residence) the 9's take 3 to 4 shots to drop one of the steel targets. The .40 is quite a bit louder, but each hit target folds over with one shot.

As far as rifles go, I have a Mauser 98k 8mm. Synthetic stock, high powered scope.

:)

Lovely rifle.

I guess my x law enforcement backround asks me "why are you in a area you have to carry, if you know its unsafe dont be there"

Next is you guys dont need a car meet you need a gun meet.....

My choice is .380 in a boot. my trusty ole backup. It fits great under the seat of my motorcycle too.
H&K makes great tools.

If your looking for a fight a semi auto works. If you want trusty equipment the ole Revolver works best.

Simple things to point out.......
1# Never pull unless you willing to hand your life away!!!!
2# Never keep a loaded gun within arms reach in a car!!!
3# If you get pulled over for a traffic stop. Keep both hands on the wheel. Be calm, Tell who ever it is that stopped you that you have a firearm. But keep both hands on the wheel til THEY tell you what to do next! Be Calm and Speak Calm..... That way the police officer dosent get gun happy. (most police officers are young non experanced..... now days)
4# Never walk into a bar or a bank with a gun its illegal (airports we all know about)
5# If you have to use it in self defence... always fire walking backwards..... You were retreating...... (defence) Shoot center mass. In double taps... Do not think oh i'll get him in the knee.... Chances are your going to miss anyways..... Center mass!
once its all over with be willing to go to jail for a few days. Doesnt matter if it was justifed or not!! While they are investigating your going to be in jail.... Then after its all over .. You will be sued by the left over family........ All ways happens... wrongful death suit....
I have seen those dragged out for years......

So is it really worth it? Not really..... It will ruin your life x10

If your in a area you fell you need to carry. Dont be there........

I dont like to bring up the bad things. But I have seen way to many people lifes wasted over this..........
Guns are for hunting ,ranges and war.. Not a purse!

For personal use, I carry a Springfield XD-40 Tactical .40 Cal, 15 Round Mags, Hydroshock ammo.

Goes with me just about everywhere I go. ;-)

If so and yours is the 5" barrel I'd be interested in your height/weight and what hoslter you use. I'm going to be applying for my ccw at the end of the month.

me = 6'1" 190lbs.

I don't think he was saying it's not worth the conquences.

I think he was saying most people DON'T Understand the conquences.. So know them, and be aware of what WILL happen, if you ever pull the trigger.

Maybe this will help a bit.

1: Never pull the gun as a scare tactic. This will only get you killed. If you pull it, intend 100% to use it.

2: If you DO fire, do not shoot to wound. Shoot to kill. Like he said, double taps to center mass. Most common criminals are not wearing body armor.

3: If you DO Fire, you WILL Get sued. No way around it.

4: Do NOT Shoot someone in the back. This is not defense, it is homicide. I don't care WHAT they are doing. Get them to turn around before you fire.

If an Officer sees a situation where someone has a Gun or knife directed at you, or your wife / etc, and sees YOU fire at and kill the person, you will STILL get sued.

The Crime Lab will get your gun, for up to 2 weeks, possibly longer. (This even happens to Officeres involved in shootings)

You WILL go to jail (95% of the time, anyway). It's the way things are done. Soon as a Judge says it was justified, your free to go.

You are very much correct thank you for pointing that out. I have only had to draw my weapon twice in about 4 years. And never did I ever have to fire on the person who was comming at me they always backed down. Both times I was in a postion were I could not defend myself both times were car jackings once in Atlanta and once here in montana at a rest stop. Both times they had knives. Even if a attacker comes at me with a knife and I am in a postion to defend myself without the use of a firearm I will. I have military training, and take mixed martail arts. (Full contact Karate, BJJ, Akido..Ect...Ect..) Only to be used when there is no other choice same as a handgun.....I posted pics of what a knife fight did to me and I have years of training. I had to do what I had to do to protect the people around me. And I still have scars...Great for chicks though they love it

Put a laserdot on the bottom, and you've got it. :)

I clock in at 6'3", 250 lbs (mostly leg muscle mass)

I'll get the Name / Make / Model of the holster for you when I get home.

Is defending yourself worth consiquences HELL YA it is.......

I guess... But I would reather be dead then in jail for 15 years!
And what are you doing that puts you in this?
You have a better chance getting hit by a car then a "by chance" That would play cause for use of a gun......

I only posted to let you know its a HUGE ticket you are signing away everytime you strap on your holster... Just remember ........ You only get a fraction of a second to think about it... Then its all over....
The court will also ask Who fired first? Why where you there in the 1st place. And so on.

So is carrying a gun worth it? Yes and no...... Yes because it helps curb crime a little. No because of what you can loose afterwards.....

Also there are levels of force in what you can use, only use what is need to over come the level of force that is upon you
But remember aways be retreating....

B.T.W. I am a gun owner x5 and a NRA member...
Also used to work for a police dept.

I personally would rather have to be put in prison for 15 years than have anything happen to my wife and baby.

Also no need for jail if you have a good attorney. With a good Att. your chances of even spending one night in lock down are next to none for self defence cases.

Hell O.J. killed his exwife and her boyfriend and didnt even get a slap on the wrist.

than have anything happen to my wife and baby

You would take them some where this might happen?

Also.... O.J. might have got off.. So.... He spent how much to get that? Maybe he didnt do it.
O.J. still spent time in jail anyways........ before the trial.....

But look what happen afterwards...... Now he was sued in civil court and lot almost everything...

He can even go anywhere without people bugging him.... Thats is onething I left out of my list.
If you kill someone you will always have someone look at you differant then before... and you have to watch out for the mom or the bother that might come to get you even 10 years from now.

which is still my point.........

I am just saying Think about it before it happens.... Thats all.... I dont want any of you to go thought what I have seen other go though.....

Sounds good, most of mine is lower leg mass as well, former sprinter. What brand is the laser as well, I've been looking for one that doesn't break the bank. Always hard to not spend money on the car and spend it on the gun.

VerbalKint said:
Is that yours? I can tell it's ready to fire, but wrong angle to tell if one is chambered.. ;-)

There's always one in the chamber at my house, what good does a dry-fire do to an intruder? If I had kids though it would of course be different, luckily my boxer is unable to open the drawer or pull the trigger :D

Another thing, I'm reading these so called rules to be aware of. Most of them are inaccurate or incomplete. Please visit the surgeon generals web site for complete, and accurate rules for your state. I personally printed out 65 pages of them and keep certain pages with me at all times in case I'm challenged on them. For example, carrying in certain places verys greatly from state to state, although places who's primary purpose is sales of aclohol for on site consumption are uiversal as well as federal and state buildings, airports and others. Look for the sign and know the law.

Be safe
Be smart

I highly recommend Hydro-Shok ammo, if you can get it there. Even a shot off center mass will cause tremendous damage. The HydroShok causes excessive cavitation in the body fluids.

Anyway, Here's the laserdot. (This is not the one I have, But it's very similar.)
Tru-Glow Laser Dot

You CAN use any laser dot or tac light that is for NATO 1913/Picatinney compatible rails

The holster is: Pro-Pak Undercover Shoulder Holsters. Bought at a pawn shop.. :)

I use Hydra-shock but the sides of the bullet are very flat. I'm always afraid of a 3 point bind even though I've never had it happen. Another good personal defense round made to cause rediculous damage and not exit the body is the Remington Golden Saber. The (+P) version has more a punch but I'd never want the round to leave the target, especially in a populated area. You're still responsible for that round when it leaves the body and the penitrator in the Hydra-shock.

Figures that they're out of stock, I was considering ordering one right now at that price.

I usually keep Federal Premium Self-defense 180 grain JHP HYDRA SHOKS in mine. Never had a FTF or FTfeed.

Does that holster have accomodations for the laser sight if I bought one?

Here is AZ it's 80.00 for the class and 80.00 for the permit. You don't even need to own a gun yet, You can use their rentals to pass the class and get the permit. I carry my full-size H&K USP.40 all the time with an "inside-the-pants holster" it's fine and you can barely see it with just a T-shirt on.

pics?

and pics of it revealing a bit?

im in debate, compact or not compact.

Noboby mentioned the Kahr K9? That's super easy to conceal, much easier than any glock model because it's a single stack mag. I went through NYPD police academy and some of the firearms instructors swear by it.
