Can anyone shed some light on the difference between the years? There is a different waterpipe for the 90 model vs the 91-94 6-bolt motors.. Is it mouting holes only? or different outputs?
Also, the difference btwn the turbo and non-turbo is the outputs for the turbo correct?

I am installing (just about finished) a 90 model 6-bolt in my 95 Talon Tsi AWD with an oil-cooled only turbo. So, I should be able to use a 90 model non-turbo waterpipe correct?

Ltr,
MM

The 90 turbo model year water pipe doesnt have a nipple to feed the water/oil cooler on the turbo cars, its air/oil cooled. The 90-94 nt water pipe has no nipple for any oil cooler or a outlet to feed water to a turbo. A 91-94 waterpipe has provisions to feed a water/oil cooler. (nipple near water pump) and feeds water to a turbo.

Yes a 1g 2.0 NT water pipe would be exactly what your looking for. I use one also :thumb:

Thanks Mike1992. That makes sense now. I didn't think about the water/oil cooler.

Now for another Q... In the swap I used the head/block (90 model) and waterneck. I am susposed to swap the water temp sensors from my 2G. The water temp that feeds the ECU (2 wire plug) has the same size theads, so that was no problem. The other sensor which I believe feeds the watertemp guage?(single wire) has a larger thread diameter on the 1G than 2G.
Am I susposed to adapt the 2G or will the 1G function the same?

Thanks,
MM

That I dont know, might wanna search on it or start a new thread.

I searched, but didn't find the exact answer to my problem..I'll post a new thread tonight when I get home from work unless someone happens to read this and answer it for me.
Thanks again,
MM

I dont know if this will help but when I installed a turbo on my 93 nt I used the water line that runs through the throttle body. I just plumped it through the turbo instead of through the throttle body. The only reason they run the water through the throttle body is for preventing freeze up in extreme cold weather on the throttle body, and my car is only used in the summer so it worked great. Quick easy water cooling for the turbo helping to extend the life of the turbo and my oil.

Ok...a new twist to my problems. Over the weekend, a friend gives me this waterpipe from a N/T 1G. Now...the pipe doesn't fit. If you push the pipe (while facing the car) from left to right into the waterpump output, the long small tube welded into the pipe hits the block.
It looks like it needs to be moved over like 1" or maybe 1.5." The mount on the waterpipe would line up to the threaded hole on the block if you could move it over.
The 2G pipe I have from the orginal 7-bolt will slide in and fit where it is susposed to be except for the obvious that the outlet of the pipe turns up towards the waterneck.
So what should I do? Heat up the 1G pipe and try to bend the small tube into place or cut/weld the 2G pipe to make it fit? I can get the pipes E-coated in and out at work, so I'm not worried about the welding and rusting problem. I just need to get this thing going as I don't have much time left to get her running.

Thanks,
MM

That's interesting . . . You sure you have a 6-bolt water pump on there? B/C the only difference between the n/a and Turbo-ed 4g63 blocks that I know of is the n/a blocks do not have oil squirters for the pistons . . . physical dimensions should be the same.

Hmm. . . well if you got the pipe from who I *think* you got it from (Guy has a white '90 GSX?) ask him where "Payes'" is. If not, Take 389/North Jackson st. North out of town. You'll cross over the new bypass . . . keep driving for about 10 minutes. Then there will be a 'junkyard' on the right-hand side of the road (you really can not miss it).

He has . . . I would say almost a dozen DSMs out there. Most 1g n/a's and a couple Turbos. Might as well just go pull a pipe. He's open on weekends and after 1700 weekdays.

Good luck.

you know, I just realized who you are...Matt right? I believe that's what Evan told me. Yeah, I've heard all about your car and your ups and downs (man that thing with your oil pressure musta sucked, after just getting your block back).

The motor has the 1G waterpump on it, I am sure. The guy I bought it from was running the motor in a 1G car with a B16G.
It is weird that the waterpipes have the identical length from mounting tab to end of pipe (back to waterpump), but the smaller tube is farther out on the 2G tube which clears the corner of the block.

Bringing up a old thread instead of starting a new one. I ran into the same problem the new waterpipe was too short. So did I get the wrong one? Anyone have pictures of all the different ones. I want one that doesn't have the oil cooler lines and the turbo lines on it as well. What one do I have that is too short?
