Ok so when I was cleaning out my car's interior last night I got around to the trunk. I have only had my talon about 5 months so I am still learning what is wrong with it plus I have no time since I am still in high school. I have a 95 Talon Tsi AWD and the reservoir for the windshield washer fluid is under the spare tire. Well the bottom part of the spare wheel well was filled with about .25 to .5 inches of water(or what seemed to be water). I know the obvious thing was it could be the reservoir leaking but I looked and cleaned it all up and there didn't seem to be anywhere leaking. I was wondering if others have had any problem with leakage or if anyone would have any idea how to stop it. There is now obvious rust there because who knows how long it has been there. Before I found this I knew of absolutely no rust on my car, which is suprising from what I hear others talking about. Also what would be a good way of stopping the rust from spreading at all/countering the effects of it. Would some Rustoleum spray paint work good to cover it up and stop the rust? Well any ideas or help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

For starters, unplug your drain holes. There are two, one on either side of the trunk where the hatch sits. There are also drain holes at the bottom of the trunk well. Sand down the parts that have rust, and either paint them, or protect them with something.

Well the hatch seals look pretty good. There are a few questionable spots but doesn't look too bad. Also there was nothing wet at all in the trunk, which is why I believe the water had been there for awhile. I have washed my car a few times since and there has been no problem yet. And I looked for some drain plugs but haven't seen any. I will look again soon. Thanks for your input so far.

I had/have the same problem in my 95' GST. I say hve/had because I've been working on it so its been sitting in the garage for a while so I'm not sure if it still leaks. From what I had concluded on my so far though and what sounds to be on yours is something below the carpet in the wheel well part, because mine would fill up about half an inch and the carpet would not be wet at all. Maybe the carpet had dried by the time I checked but I'm still completely dumbfounded as to what the problem is/was. Hope you find the problem :thumb:

I hae the same damn problem everytime it rains, I replaced the drain tubes for the hatch, but there are 2 other lines i can't get to so i can see if they are clogged. I think they are from the sunroof, I thinki need a new sunroof weather stripping and to unclog those other drain holes.

ok well it's been another few days and no problem. I am guessing the water was just there from a long time ago so I need to still sand and paint the rust to make sure it doesn't get worse. Thanks for all your help. If the problem persist and I find a way to fix it I'll let you guys know.

I could swear 95s seals are noctoriously crappy, I had the same problem..ended up with a warped floor board, I've gutted the back end completely to allow the water to flow out until I get a new hatch seal. Mine was coming from the right side near the rear strut tower.

Heh, about a month ago my moms car(Audi A6) started to get real stinky. Detirmined the smell was coming from the trunk, I pulled the carpet up, and pulled out the spare tire. To my suprise, there was an inch or two of muddy, smelly, brown water. I punched out the drain holes, and it all drained out. Luckilly, nothing had rusted. I sprayed it out with fresh water and then dried it with compressed air. It hasn't come back yet. Yes they do fill up randomly, and hopefully you get to it before it rusts/stinks up.
