charlottetown,
I blew up a stock wheel the other day on my awd. I have the stock spare on it now, Will driving it like 15km do any damage to the transfer case due to the size difference?

My car came with a full size spare. Its not as wide but its still the same size around. Yours should be the same. They would not give you a spare that would damage the car. It should be ok unless you do not have the oem rims and tires

I know your just not supposed to go more than 45mph. (sorry I'm an ignorant American and I don't know what that is in kph)

Ukm I just measured my stock swirlies and they are 17" from one tip to the other. What gives? i thought 95 awd wheels were 16"

This is what the wheels look like

IslanderTsi, they don't measure wheels the way you have described. That is 16" to the inner lip, the part where the tire seals to. What ever sized rim you have it will always physically measure larger when you go from one outer lip to the other. Just look on the tire itself for the size, should look something like 205/55/16, 215 is the tire width in mm, 55 is the height of the sidewall in a % of the width, so on this example the sidewall is 55% of 205mm and finally 16 is the diameter of the wheel & rim in inches.

I realized it is a 16 inch tire and wheel, it just seemed strange that they would be set up that way. I never measured a wheel before and it struck me odd that it was 17 inches.

Temporary spares tires are usually speed rated "N", or lower. Our spare tires specifically say on them "Do NOT travel over 55 mph".

I'm sure a manufacturer wouldn't put something in the vehicle if it would cause near-immediate damage from use, temporary item or not. That spare is a spare temporary replacement for a stock wheel. You'll be fine using it, just replace it as soon as possible.

I blew one of mine 2 weeks ago (stock), drove 30 miles on the spare no problem.

Using a different sized (even the difference in tire brand or wear) can wreck a differential. How much abuse they can typically take I don't know. I would think slower speeds would help minimise the heat generated. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.
