2G Water temp gauge sending unit tap location in 2g

Is it best to tap the thermostat housing above the thermostat or below it for the water temp sensor?

There are several predrilled holes. Use any of them,

On my 2g water neck there are no extra holes available. I know there is at least one in a 1g water neck though. I think I might just drill and tap right on top of the water neck. Any thoughts?

I know I'm bringing up an old thread but I need to know this as well. I want to install my water temp gauge but don't want to have my stock one dead. Where can I tap in my thermostat for a 2g?

Below will give a more accurate reading. The water below the thermostat is going to be warmer before the water above, even if by only a small bit. After the stat opens there will be no difference.
