Water lines for turbocharger, are supply and return directional?

Basically, does it matter which end of the turbo is recieving water and which is returning it? I am installing a 20g and forgot which line was which esp. after switching the front to the rear to get them lining up to where I could get a hose on them.
I currently have the line on the tstat housing going to the front water line on turbo, and the one in the rear of the turbo going to the small water line that drops down off of the big water pipe running parallel to the block.
I could not find info on which went where, and only just now found out that they are backwards?
