Well i've had my GST for a lil while now but do nothing but drive it as a DD so it hasn't been messed with much, but im thinking of going ahead and starting to do some things to it...Im wanting to upgrade the turbo from it's stock to something just a bit more better...Don't know much about these cars but i've read abit and still dont know what turbo to go with... I just want a bit bigger turbo and im getting a FMIC aswell..But what turbo is it that i need to go with guys? My car has factory internals and i dont know what they can hold...Anybody help me out with things i should do would be great !

stock T25 turbo is good for about 250hp, and thats pushing it. its a small turbo so running 16+ psi will wear it out after a while. my friends turbo started smoking heavily after a few months on 17psi.

a 14b on 13-14psi will blow a T25 out of the water on any boost. get a walbro 255 high pressure, intake, 14b/16g, gut your cat and muffler or get a complete exhaust system or even run open downpipe but your car will run rich unless you solder resistors to your 2nd o2 sensor.

a fmic will always help because it cools intake temps a lot better than a tiny smic. i wouldnt trust a smic for over 270-280hp.

might i mention, seafoam your car. tank, vac lines, and 1/3 of the bottle into your oil and drive it for a mile or two and change your oil. if your engine is gunked up or has a lot of carbon deposits, it will make a difference. nothing SPECTACULAR, but about 5hp or so since youre getting all that nasty crap out of your engine.

dont forget your boost gauge if you havnt already, i just installed mine and was very surprised at what i found

A larger turbo, and a fmic are not good early upgrades on our cars. The stock components are more than capable of handling many upgrades before they need replacement. Read this
Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

Agreed. Follow the upgrade path that was suggested. Before that, the most important thing you can do is ALL OF YOUR MAINTENANCE. Once again, DO NOTHING until all your maintenance is done.

yea make sure all your fluids are fresh and your belts are good. if your car is around 60k/120k, change your timing and balance shaft belts.

haha my stock boost gauge was reading 10 pounds the one i just put in was reading 15

Thanks guys ! The car has alottttt of highways miles... it sits at 168k... timing belt was changed just recently, and i keep all my vehicles up to maintaince...Im a Ford Tech... so its kinda of a habit to watch everything closley on cars...Does Cold Air Induction help our cars any?

And when i seafoam the car, where do i inject the seafoam at for these cars?

ALSO....How much horsepower will these engines hold before having to get forged goodies?

Check out my current profile modifications. Absolutely no tuning done whatsoever and I'm pulling in the 20+PSI range with the 14B. All possible through Evo OEM parts.

All questions/comments/concerns about Sea Foam will pertain to the thread below.

Check out "Project NTR" in the blog section in a few weeks, where I go into detail. :)

I've done all my maintance... Like i said it's a habit as it is for me being a Tech

a stock 7 bolt is good for lets say 350whp safely, and it will last a long time at that power level. there have been people making 400-500hp on them but unless youre ready to drop another engine in, i wouldnt risk it. look up "how to blow up a talon" on youtube. the car makes 35+psi a few times till it throws a rod on a bone stock 7 bolt.

all 4g63's have stock forged steel rods. forged evo 9 pistons would be a good idea. if you want 6 bolt rods, you can have them machined so they fit on your crank. the journal diameter is the same, just the rods are wider side-to-side.

first mods id do is: intake, exhaust, 14b turbo, walbro 255lph high pressure pump, fmic.

Why would you upgrade to a 255 without even getting injectors or a way to log/manage? If you intend to stay with around 650cc injectors you can get a 190lph. With a 255 you also need a fpr, 190s dont. Dont forget your mbc and aftermarket guage.

i agree with SCUBBA STEVE!:thumb: personally i would do the regular maintence than upgrade like boost gauge, MBC, 190 fuel pump, AFC 550's or 650's, exhaust, intake, FMIC, Eprom than see how you like your 14b but with all that i would suggest a 16g:hellyeah: That wont be to expensive and will get you putting down some good numbers:rocks:

i shouldnt be posting until im fully awake. i should have mentioned the mbc and boost gauge but i thought that they were an obvious mod if youre going to be messing with a turbo car.

i bought my car with a 255lph and i think it saved my ass a few times when my 16g started spiking to hell and back. also on vfaq it is mentioned that the stock fuel system isnt all that great and that the cylinders dont get even amounts of fuel. while the 255 might make your car run a tad rich, it will at least keep your cyls getting the same amount of fuel. if you dont believe me, read here SteveTek Labs Research: High Flow Fuel Delivery System

and another reason i like the 255 is that you can run a bit more boost because of the extra fuel overrun. if you dont mind your gas mileage going down a little bit and like to run a extra psi or 2, i dont see why not.

For the first few smaller mods, you could look into first getting a Boost Gauge and Boost controller installed. I would keep the T25 at 15psi or less on stock everything.

If you havent gotten an exhaust yet, that would be the next step I would do. maybe along with an 02 housing as well.
We sell various exhausts. Apexi, HKS, or Megan Racing are good options.

cold air helps a decent amount. the air charge is getting pressurized so its going to heat up inevitably, but removing any restriction will help.

seafoam - use a vac line that will deliever it the most evenly to all cylinders, or just put it in the fuel tank. itll clean out your fuel system and evenly distribute it to your cylinders. however its also good to let the vac lines suck some in and turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes.

your car will smoke heavily, but dont be alarmed, thats just the gunk getting burned off.

also if your engine has oil leaks or the seals are old and hard, seafoam cleans out the gunk thats keeping it from leaking as bad, so be advised.

when i put it in my oil, i didnt lug the hell out of the engine. just took it easy, 30-40% throttle to like 4-5k and shift. let it rev out and build oil pressure to help pick up deposits. do this for a mile or two. if your oil is extremely dirty, i dont know if it could clog your oil gallerys up, but it never did on mine, and my car was GUNKED up, BAD.
