I just got my 98 talon 2 week's ago, I have the hahn turbo kit 16G Portfueler and Intercooler.

I want to get over 380HP so here's a list of mod's just to start off with.

Greddy Turbo Timer
New Exhaust, Apexi N1
I'am going to go and switch out the 16G with a Big 16G Evo 3 Turbo
NGK Wire Set
Walbro 255HP
DSM Link

Is this a good start??

DSMLink is for factory-turbocharged cars only, and even then only those with Eprom ECU's. Your 98 Talon fits into neither category. I'm not totally sure what the 2gNT guys do about fuel, but the 255lph pump might also not be correct for your car.

Keep in mind that your Talon has a Chrysler 420a motor, not the Mitsubishi 4g63. The modification steps and parts you're going to use are completely different.

Read through this and search the 420a Tech Forum part of DSMtuners for more information.

A 255lph fuel pump will work fine with the 420A. You should also look into a rewire kit for the pump.

Instead of DSMlink (since it's for factory turbo cars as Eric stated), look into Megasquirt. Just scrolling through the 420A Engine Management sub-forum, it seems it's a pretty popular setup.

The turbo timer isn't a necessity, but a luxury. It won't be needed since that turbo is still water cooled. So you may want to see if you'd rather spend the money elsewhere and just sit in the car for a minute to let it cool down (not that it really needs it though).

thnx for the info, saving me alot of money. Mine is just a stock 420a with a hahn stage 2 turbo kit, and as anyone ever ordered off of extremepsi before??.

+1 for sure on ExtremePSI FTW. There are on my favorites on my PC..

380hp on a stock 420a, probally not a good idea. You might want to look into building the motor first before trying to get 380hp. Even if you do get that on a stock motor its not going to last long at all. Save yourself alot of time and money and do it right the first time.

My buddy(focker420) on this site built his 420a to the nutts. Lets just say he's around 15 000$ deep into engine and turbo set-up and he did the whole rebuild himself. Now he is trying to run a megasquirt to no prevail and is having a hell of a time getting it to work. He has brought it to 2 seperate tuners and spent pretty close to 500$ just trying to get the computer to work. It's going to be a fast car no doubt about it but just the torment he went through with putting it together and now it still doesn't run. Needless to say after going for a pull in my talon he went out and imported himself an EVO3 from japan and is going to do that now. Just a little story about a good friend of mine that you should keep in mind when building your car.

The pistons will be okay if you do not have any detonation "knock" as I have seen them hold together up to 15 psi of boost; however, the rods risk breaking above 280 horsepower. The pistons are cast and pose a risk as well if your fuel pump goes out under 10+ psi boost , goodbye pistons. As you can see I have a 420a turbo and I have a 7.25 psi spring I have been running daily and I need to dyno tune it for the 10 psi tial wastegate spring. However I would NOT go over 10psi under any circumstances. Don't do the manual boost controller, in that subject only use a good electronic one ( like Apexi AVC-r Greddy ect.) that actively monitors the boost pressure to prevent overboosting and potentially damaging you motor. It is all about playing it safe when you are running stock rods on the 420a. The Hahn stage 2 16g turbo has a 10 psi wastegate to give you an example. It has been seen to exceed this ,but those also are the videos on Youtube you see of 420a motors blown up. At 10 psi ( and proper fuel) with 2.5 in mandrel exhuast and bored throttle body you can have 265hp+ motor. You can try to exceed the 280hp mark, but you will damage your motor in the end because we have metalergy ( powdered metal bonded) connecting rods. Spend the extra $1500 and buy a whole new gasket kit, head bolts, forged pistons and rods. You can turn it up to 20 psi if you want then ( agian with proper fuel)

Go for stage 2 with intercooler and tune with methanol/water injection. After you have those down you will probably have saved up for the extra 1500+ to build your motor.

I want to extend this positive message to you, tune your 420a, but take your time. I have been on mine since december of last year and now I have around 220 hp on stock exhuast though I am about to upgrade to 2.5 inch. It took me about 2 months to figure out how to run the boost above 7 psi and not have a check engine light. It is my daily dirver now and I manage to get 25 mpg in the city. :D
