My speedometer does not function, so based on my searches on the VSS during the forum, finding Defiant's pictures and information has lead me to believe my VSS has gone bad. I would like to know how to first check it and then second, replace the sensor unit all together. Thanks guys!

It may be as simple as it just being disconnected. My buddy's fell out when he was driving because when he was working on it he didn't re-connect it correctly so definitly check that out before buying any new parts.

Remove bolt with 10mm socket, get it the hell away from the sensor so you don't drop it into the gearbox, pull out the sensor, hook up a circuit tester and see if it makes and breaks four times per revolution.

i have a REALLY stupid question but i can't seem to get a straight answer...is there a wiring harness that is supposed to plug into the top of the sensor once it's installed? when i went to replace mine there wasn't one pluged in...however my speedo did work. now that i've replaced it...it doesn't work...

am i missing something? just curious

I've had my speedo stop working twice. Both times the reason was that the speedo cable had broken right where it connects to the tranny. Just unscrew it and if you see a mess of wire you'll need to replace it. (easy and cheap to find in junkyards just gotta do the replacement yourself)

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure 2g's don't have speedo cables, its all computer driven. cleaner, but not as simple as a cable
