I purchased this car about 2 weeks ago, and I am beginning to have problems everywhere it seems. I am currently stuck on a voltage problem. I drove the car about 300 miles on a brand new battery, then the car slowly died on me and shut off due to lack of electrical power. The car would not start, so I got a new battery and drove it home and started looking it over. I replaced the terminals, checked all the fuses in the fuse box, had the alternator tested, and cleaned up some grounds all with no luck. The alternator was tested as "good" by the local autozone. I don't even know where to start from the point i am right now. I figure it is a short some where as I have been looking over wires with little to no luck.

The car was showing a p0300 multiple misfire code, and I believe it to be caused by this low voltage problem. The car is running very rich and smells like raw fuel.

Any help or start points would be great.

Edit: this may or may not help, There is only 1 wire going to the positive terminal on the alternator, instead of the 2 white ones. and does that smaller post have anything connected to it?

Easy way to test the alt is to just remove the one of the battery terminals while car is running and see if the car dies .If car dies then you have a alt issur and not battery.If you decide to remove the positive terminal istead of the negative do not let it come in contact with anything while you are doing this.
 
Best bet before you unplug anything while the car is running. Get a wiring diagram for the charging system and see what should be there. If there is anything missing on the alternator attempt to locate it and put it back on.
 
Don't take off the terminal to check the alternator.

When you put back the terminal, It will cause spark which can fry your ECU.

That method is not recommendable on our Dsm.

Check your Voltage.

Get a voltmeter and check the wire at the Alternator, then check the same wire at the fuse box, after that check the volts at the battery.

There shouldn't be less then 13vlts. At Idle, it should be around 13 or over 14vlts.
 
Well thanks guys but I already stated alternator was good. I followed the wires from the alternator to the fuse box, and one of the wires was not in the connector. It was covered by electrical tape so every once in a while my car would charge. works fine now.

steady at 14.1 volts
 
Crazy what some people do to their cars. My PO didnt want to replace the dimmer switch in mine, so he just drilled random holes in the gauge cluster face and hot glued leds in there, and ran wires from random feed wires.
