For the longest time I've had a very nasty battery drain. So I decided to do something about it because jumping the battery all the time is a pain. So I started pulling fuses with my trusty test light. Until, I found the problem. The Room Lamp fuse is causing the drain.

What does this fuse do, and can I drive the car without this fuse?

the way i see it pretty much every fuse in your car is of somewhat necessity. but if you arent sure about something google is always ## bestfriend. If thats the problem it seems like you have a groud issue with that fuse circuit, it could be shorting to ground, or its shorting of your battery cable somewhere, if you have a multimeter you should ohm it out, then try voltage checks on it and see what you get. if its shorted your multimeter should read OL as in overload, or it'll read some astronomical number.

I doubt the ECU will work without it's backup memory power from this fuse.

Well the car does work, I started it today because I had to go to work. Now I'm back from work. So obviously the drain went away, so it does have something to do with the room lamp fuse. Guess I'm going to have to find the short or possible ground issue.

EDIT: To the left of the fuse box, (inside car) in back of the plastic there is some wiring. I'm not sure if this is factory or not, I haven't found to where it leads because it goes into the dash. Plus, I remember seeing a mess of wiring with the aftermarket radio the guy before installed. Maybe theirs an issue there

it could possibly be..i would reccomend find the points (leads or wires) where your lamp fuse is coming off of, trace that back and see what you find

I would get a multimeter and probe the circuit for your room lam fuse. Seems its got a short to power somewhere, keeping something on while everything is turned off.
