Viz Carbon Fiber Hood and Aerocatch Hoodpins

Well I finally was able to install my carbon fiber hood and aerocatch hood pins. I was hoping to get some feed back on how it looks. It was a little frustrating installing the hood pins because of the size I had to cut out of the hood but with a few bends here and there I think it came out alright.

Looks very good. I have a 93 and I really like those Aerocatch. I put those on my Seibon.

They do take some time to do it right. I also cut some thin stock aluminum backing plate to put on the bottom side of the hood. I didn't like the idea of just the hood providing the strength for the screws and nuts.

I also bought some SS hardware to use instead of the ones that came with the latches.

As far as the oem latch goes. I removed it because it was putting to much pressure on the hood, almost bending it downward. Think it will be alright with just with the hood pins?

My next question. Should I put a heat shield under the hood to protect it? Or will the carbon fiber be alright?

You should be good with just the pins, I'm pretty sure a few people on here completely removed the oem latch due to needing the extra space and whatnot.

If you don't have the OEM heatshield to put on it, get some DEI heat barrier to put on. The gel coatings on CF hoods do not like high temps and will start to haze and look like crap after time.

I melted the crap out of my CF hood with a tubular manifold. After a fast lap, I would pop my hood and the manifold was glowing like a motel 6 neon sign. The heat from the manifold actually discolored my CF hood right above the manifold. If your cast I don't know if it has the same problems, but I would highly recommend the heat shield of some sort.

Are you using the cast, or tubular header? If your using the cast you could try to make a heat shield out of metal.

Im have the 2g cast manifold and I have the heat shield on it as well. I just need to know what lining, if any, to put on the underside of the hood.

If you have the heat shield on the cast manifold I would think you are pretty good. You just need something to divert/absorb/difflect direct heat from the manifold and you have that. Adding it to the underside would be a good extra precaution to avoid getting any sort of discoloring from the underhood heat directly over the manifold. Looks good man!

I agree with the pins should hold. I too did the aerocatch hoodpins on my carbon fiber hood and havent had any problems at any speed. As for the stock hood latch assembly yup I yanked that out ass well. Here is some pictures of My hood. Aerocatch pins are from TOPSECRET.JPN . call it rice or call it sweet i got a good deal and besides I would suport Smokey and TopSecret any day

Looks good. Just be sure to seal up the areas where you cut the the CF really well with clear nail polish or moisture will get under the gel coat and cause it start to lift and look foggy.

i used a silicone based sealent and sealed all around where it was cut to include the holes that I riveted. I dont have a heat shield on the hood though but im only running the stock manifold to include the stock heatshield.

All of the heat shield material that I know of that is ment for the hood is adhesive like. Its like dynomat for heat instead of sound. Peal, stick, trim, crap, peal some more, stick, trim....

Those aerohood pins look 1000 times better than the traditional hood pin sticking up. Those are mounted in the top radiator support just like other hood pins right? I ran my CF hood with just the stock hood catch for awhile, it made me really nervous at highway speeds seeing the hood wiggle and shake so I ended up going with hood pins and ditching the latch.

Thats the missing step! I totally forgot about sealing it up because i did it later in the night. Off to go find sealant.

Nope didn't use the top radiator mounts. I felt the latches would be too close together so I evenly spaced them a little farther apart. I tried to get them as symmetrical and even as possible. It took more time I supose than using the radiator supports but I like it a whole lot better. I will try and take some pictures of the pins and of the latches more closely tomorrow if I remember.
