Can you paint CF hoods? I would hate to have a hood that's a different color.

here is a pic of a 240 that has a red painted cf hood.

"Sal also applied a thin coat of Candy to the carbon hood; since the paint is translucent and not opaque, it still allows the fiber patterns to show through while imparting a reddish tint to the weave."

- hope this helps! :thumb:

If it is a real VIS hood, then is comes allready clearcoated. Go ahead and wash and wax it like normal. Wax might actually help prevent the sun from fading it. :thumb:

Dude, I dont think pr0 was referring to candy paint. I have a VIS carbon fiber hood on my car and mine is painted. It is painted just the same as the rest of the car. Here's a pic.

how much did it cost to get that done to your car?looks nice, but would you like to have the carbon fiber weave visible but in another color or do you want to be lighter but not obvious? :dsm:

I lost count how much $ I've spent. Way too much. The paint was over $4000 alone.

The only way to keep the cf weave visible is to either leave it alone or paint it with candy paint. Neither of those two would have looked good on my car because of the graphics. I think it would have looked too "cluttered". I didnt get it because I liked the look of carbon fiber. I got my hood because it was lightweight and mostly because I liked the style of it. I definately glad I painted it. :dsm:

Yes it looks good both painted and unpainted, you can clean it just like any other body panel of the car.

99gst: Don't mind the wing, graphics got-to-go.

Carbon fiber/ fibre hoods

*Should be waxed every time you wash your car (I know it suck but it is the ONLY thing that will prevent sun fade over time)

*Hoods that look like the red one are usually not painted with a candy. Carbon is black painting a black thing does not make it look that color. The hoods are a combo carbon fiber/ Kevlar. Kevlar is Yellow and can be bleached and dyed all sorts of colors.

*Carbon fiber can be painted but better yet can be gel coated (this is done during manufacturing and should not be done afterward)
