I have a 92 talon AWD Turbo with 150K and no mods except a K & N filter. The car has a vibration in the steering wheel and floor in 5th gear at speeds over 60+ mph. Also there is a low pitched grinding type noise when on the gas. The shake becomes worse when on the throttle and lessens when let off. I have tried most everything to fix problem. The shake seems to smooth out a little at 80+ but still hear the grinding noise when on the gas.

Things I have replaced:
- New wheels and tires.
- Different tranny. Old one was shot but had the same problem when
before I replaced it.
- New carrier bearings on driveshaft.
- Front tie rod replaced.
- C/V Joints checked and are OK.
- Motor mount replaced. Others were checked.

What's Left??????

Please do. I seem to have the exact same symptoms, and no one has been able to figure it out. In fact, the dealership technician claimed he couldn't hear or feel anything wrong and told me to come back when it gets worse so they can diagnose it. So basically, I'm supposed to wait until it blows up and then spend $3000 on a new drivetrain.

I'm curious to know how you narrowed it down to the axles and wheel hubs, or is this a best guess that you're hoping will fix it?

Good luck with the install.

EDIT:
Sorry--you must have posted while I was typing my post!

Replaced the front motor mount (left side) today. Still VIBRATES at 3K-4 1/2K RPMS. I am really Pi_____d off this can not be resolved. Took it to a driveline shop and they don't have an answer either!!!!!

Your previous posts say that the vibration is wheel-speed related, not engine-speed related. However, now you say that it vibrates at a certain engine speed. If this is correct, maybe you've fixed some driveline problems but there's still something wrong on the engine side of things (harmonic dampener, balance shafts, etc.).

If the problem is still wheel-speed related, you might consider starting from square one again to rule out the most obvious culprits since you've been battling this for over a year now. Is it possible that the tires have become out-of-round or unbalanced in this time frame? Did a wheel get bent? Stuff like that.

It seems ridiculous that the problem is still there after replacing/analyzing/balancing practically everything from the transmission on out to the wheels.

I agree this is riduculous! Took it to the dealer yesterday and they went through everything. Could not find the problem. They did say it could be the tires. But why now can I have the vibration at about the same RPM range in either 3,4,or 5th gear! How is that the tires?? I think the symptoms have changed a little duing this process, especially now it is more noticable with the new upper motor mount replaced. It is amazing to me that qualified mechanics can not figure out this problem...

Well, I have found the problem. The front CV joints are bad on the left side. Also both front wheel bearings are shot. Replacing those should quiet it down a bunch. I'll be replacing both front axles and wheel bearings tomorrow. About $225 for everything. Not bad! I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Thanks for all your help!!

Where the hell are you getting new wheels bearing hub/assy and axles for $225, sh!t if that's all it costs, I'm gonna order everything too right now.

man i hope someone figures this out as i have the same problem. The steering wheel starts to badly vibrate (shakes the whole car) at 75-80 mph. It shakes but not as severly at lesser speeds. I had new rims, tires, wheel alignment, and a worn out tie rod replaced, and it improved, but still isnt good. like i was saying

Napa had the two front axles that cost a total of $125. Each wheel bearing about $50 each. But it cost extra to have them pressed in the hubs.

Still didn't solve my problem though.

i would think that is a problem with the fuel or air sensors, try wiggling the wires around on ur mas, do you have any gauges that tell you if you are runing really lean or not? it could be too lean and strangling your motor but then again it probably isnt.

My car runs perfect. 12lbs of boost and pulls hard. Not a miss in the engine.

I am starting to think it is in the rear diff. I can turn the driveshaft a little each way but the ball joints are tight. Is that normal?
