Vancouver,
I've recently installed a catback exhaust and new H&R Race springs on my car (2G Talon Esi.) 2 days after installing my springs I was driving downtown Vancouver and was quickly introduced to driving on bumpy roads with lowering springs and stock shocks. Needless to say I will be installing after market shocks as soon as the funds are available! The next time I drove after having that bumpy ride, I jumped in the car, fired it up and immediately noticed some vibrating.

At this point I wasn't quite sure if I was just imagining it or if there actually was vibrating because it was fairly subtle. I tried reving it a couple times with the clutch in and could really notice that it was indeed vibrating more than usual. You notice it the most around 1500 rpm but I myself can notice it now all the time, under load, high or low rpms, whatever.

Also, it could just be my imagination, but it seems like my cold air intake is somewhat quieter than usual and the car is running slightly sluggish, but keep in mind this could simply be me being worriesome. The main problem that stand out is the vibrating engine. As I said it's fairly subtle but it is definitely there. At certain rpms stuff in my cabin rattles as the vibrations intensify.

At this point I just don't know where to begin. If anyone has experienced something similar please let me know, otherwise I am simply looking for suggestions as to what I should go about troubleshooting.

So far from my reading I believe that I need to check my spark plugs as maybe one isn't firing. Whether this would result in the minor vibrations I'm feeling or not I don't know. Another area worth looking into is the timing, although I read that 2G's cannot be manually mechanically adjusted as with a 1G (is this true? is there anyway to check /adjust the timing of a 2G?) The harmonic balancing belt is another suggestion I've heard.

Any suggestions or comments on the above troubleshooting areas would be much appreciated. The vibrating is subtle but I can definitely notice it, I just hope it's nothing major, or that it doesn't develop into anything major.

I tried pushing/pulling the engine around and can't do so without moving the whole car around so I don't think it's the engine mounts. I will do a visual inspection to be sure, but I don't think that's it. Right now I'm hoping it's a spark plug problem. I will be checking that tonight.

I've checked all of the spark plugs now. They are all fine, however two were quite loose. After reinstalling all of the spark plugs I'm still getting vibrations. When looking at the engine with the hood popped I can't see visually any significant shaking from the engine. Now I'm at a loss as to where these vibes are coming from. It is definitely noticeable when sitting in the car whether simply idling, reving in neutral, or driving in gear.

Could it be that a month after installing my catback exhaust it has broken in all of a sudden and cause these vibrations? Not only am I experiencing some vibrations, it just doesn't sound right in general. Sounds and feels slightly rough. It seem that since this has been happening my usually extremely loud air intake has become much quieter.

Any comments or suggestions???
