very odd 2nd gear behavior.. tranny knowledged PLEASE LOOK

Okay my transmission was rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago. (new shift forks & differential) at that time the syncro's looked to be okay. it worked perfectly up until about 1,000 miles ago.

when sitting still it feels a little choppy going into second. like something isn't lining up exactly right.

while driving I cannot quick shift into second at any RPM, and cannot shift into it at all above 6k.

in either case it doesn't grind it is more like it hits something and you can't pull it past.. let out on the clutch it is in neutral.. the RPMS HAVE to drop before I can shift.

now the weird part:

If I make a hard left turn while in second gear it makes 2 noises and pops out of second. I cannot force it to stay in gear it comes out anyways. this WILL NOT happen in ANY other gear except second gear and does nothing while turning right.



the first 2 things sound like syncro issues.. but combined with the third I am not sure. Like I say I have had about 3k worth of non-raced trouble free miles since I tore it down and replaced some parts. The only thing I have changed is I put a short shifter in B&M ebay knockoff. It MAY but I dont think it has anything to do with this. Penzoil syncromesh fluid is what I use.
 
the turning left thing and gear poping out is a symptom of something loose inside your tranny, its actualy pretty common & you can tighten it yourself... but other than that i cant remeber what i read on it

search for gears poping out & something loose in the transmission, you should find what im talkingabout ;)
 
I have a 92 TSi and it is hard to go into 2nd at any rpm, it makes this grinding noise, before it actually goes into gear, I dont have a problem staying in gear though
 
Sorry about bringing back an old post, but I'm having similar problems. When I shift into 2nd and sometimes into third, the tranny grinds. Sometimes I can't even get into first gear at a stop! I'm guessing that it's probably the synchros going out. What I'm wondering, is there any decent fix for this? Would a royal purple transmission oil or something similar help? I guess if it gets worse, I'm going to have to fix it. So does anybody know if I can just replace the synchros only?
