Just wondering, has anyone ever used vaseline (petroleum jelly) on the letters to paint there cover? Taping is a pain, I did it it turned out really well.

So how did you do this? Just wput jelly on the letters, paint, let it dry, and then wipe the letters and everything came off clean?

Took a q-tip, put a tiny layer on barely noticable but just enough, sprayed, wiped clean. So, Pretty much. Dont even need that much just enough to make the surface "oily"

What are you talking about? I looks like all you did was shave the lettering after you painted it. :hmm: A verry simple thing to do.

What he is talking about doing is putting a thin film on the lettering before painting so the paint doesn't stick to the lettering. After the paint dries you just simply wipe off the paint on the lettering. No taping, or sanding to get the paint off.

actually no, it's pretty neat. I picked it up from the last shop I worked at. I also use an electric oven in my garage, temp @ 300. rims, valve covers, smim - anything that will fit I'll do it!

Yeah well I did it tonight and it had zero affect on preventing the powder from sticking. In fact it did nothing to the powder what so ever. It did pool in my part and started smoking in the oven. Here is my CAS housing that I did in hot rod black. I coated the inside with Vaseline and a Q-tip prior to spraying and sticking it in the oven. I spent the last hour sanding the inside so I can get the sensor to fit back in.....
