Hello all,
i plan to install kelford 288 with 12mm lift on inlet,in my 2g 7bolt 4g63,but how do i know if the valves will not hit the piston without removing cylinder head?,now i'm using BC valves spring and retainer
thanks a lot for guide me

First off I doubt a set of bc springs is going to work out with those cams. You probably should get some kiggly beehives.

There is only one way to know your clearance, clay the Pistons. Sure you'll have to pull the head, but there's no other way to know for sure.

Thank you,but is that no possibilities to know the clearance using gauge dial?

I have the lower lift kelford 280/288s (11.5mm) and agree with donnie, get better valve springs. I floated exhaust valves even with kiggly hd springs (standard install height/pressure) in a high back pressure setup (67mm hx40 with .70 t3) at 9000rpm and 37psi. Went with a bigger turbo and Curt Brown shimmed the springs for more head room. No way I would run cams that big without the best possible valve control.

after few month,i just now install this tx288 cam, after i install them,i try to rotate the crank slowly by hand, but after few turn, the engine can't rotate,i feel the valve touching the piston, now im using 0,051 cometic head gasket, should i go to thicker head gasket?such 0,062?,or changing valve timing is enough?, any help for this i very thankfull

Did you BLEED your lifters with a paper clip after you installed them? If they have oil in them that won't let the spring inside compress then you have likely bent a, or some, valves. I learned the hard way when I put my cams in and didn't bleed the lifters of the oil that were in them. I bent valves buy just spinning the motor over one time by hand. This may be your problem too. Hope any damage was minimal!!!

is that mean,i must install the lifter with empty condition or no oil inside them?

Well almost. We all soak the lifters to let them get oil in them so they aren't completely dry, then, take a paper clip or other small straight stiff object and push it into the oil hole in the center of each lifter and bleed out all of the oil. I turn mine upside down while I do this. It is a bit messy but you must bleed your lifters or you will have the problem you are describing and like I went through....I bent 6 out of 8 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves on ONE rotation by hand. I hope this helps you out. Hang in there, we are all here to help.:thumb:

Sure. Hope you didn't hurt anything but better now than later on. A leakdown test would probably help. I could tell mine were bent with a flashlight in the ports looking into the sparkplug hole. Good luck man! You are searching for the check valve in the lifter that you depress and the oil will be released.

thank you Marty, after i check all,the stuck problem when i rotate by hand, come from the clutch, not the cam itself, i also open my cylinder head for check valve clearance,it's no problem, but my piston have a problem,so i decide to total rebuild my engine

OUCH!!! Yeh it looks like it is either cylinder wear or collapsed piston skirts. Well at least you WILL know that it is all good when you get done! :applause:

Wonderong what lifters to be running. I always see different opinions. Im running 2gs right now but I sre peoplw running 3gs and saying they're better. I have ticking going on now. For my setup im thinking more oil flow is needed. Can anyone help me out?
