Done searches, cant find clear answer.

95 TSI - Currently rebuilding. When putting pistons in the cylinders I get what seems like a lot of wobble. I can get .4mm feeler guage (.015") in the piston to wall gap, this about 1/2 down the dylinder and above the rings. This seems pretty wide to me.

Can someone give me the correct procedure and specs for the piston to wall clearance.

Rebuilding with all stock parts.

Thanks,
Joe

Feeler gauge?

You measure the diamter of a piston with a micrometer. The machinist cuts the bore to fit. You measure the bore with a bore gauge. Clearance will vary with piston type according to manufacturer's specifications.

In my case, wall clearance turned out to be fine. I took the block with pistons to my machinist. He felt the wobble and said it was fine. Then measured pistons with micrometer and measured cylinder with bore guage to confirm that everything was fine.

I put motor back together and have about 4k miles on it since rebuild. Its running great. Very very happy with it. Very fast.

Good luck with yours,
Joe

Yeah the wobble is worrisome. I was still concerned about it even after the machinist checked it out. But he was right and its running great. I've been getting 25+ around town and 33+ on the highway.

I would recommend having a machinist check it if at all possible. I put the block in the back of my sons talon and took it to the machinists shop. He didnt charge me anything.

I was so happy with the results that I made a special trip to seem him about a month ago to thank him and tell him how well it turned out.

Good luck with yours.

where do i get the specs for rebuilding a motor?i want to look over them, before i try to go thru my motor AGAIN!
