I just took the head off to replace the head gasket (preventative maintenance), and noticed that 2 exhaust valves (cyl2) and 2 intake valves (cyl3) are slightly opened. Is this normal with the cams locked at #1 TDC, or are they.... bent?

If it's not normal, what are the implications?

How about a picture of the other side of the head so we can see if the cam lobes are opening the valves.

Sure, here's some. If you need different/better angles, just let me know. The cam blocker was installed w/ the timing belt still installed in the car, and everything at TDC.

Take a close look and I think you'll see that the lobes are pushing the rockers down on those cylinders right now which opens the valves. The other cylinders are more on the base circle of the cam.

You can turn the cam and watch to see if each set of valves opens and closes like it should. Just turn one cam at a time and then return them to dowel pin up on both.

Indeed they are! I've been working on the car non-stop since Friday night and missed the obvious there... thanks for the help :thumb:

The lobes are just barely touching, but enough that I'm comfortable saying that's probably whats going on.
