2G Vacuum delete while retaining stock boost control

Hi guys,

I searched, but I couldn't find much help for my scenario. I'm wanting to clean up some under the hood in my newly acquired 100% original '95 talon tsi. I want to delete the EGR, smog equipment, and do a full vacuum reduction EXCEPT for the stock boost control system. Can I just follow the steps for the vacuum delete but leave the stock boost control parts in place? Do I have to reuse the stock vacuum lines for those components or can I replace those as well?

Yes. You can remove the emissions stuff and leave the BCS intact. You can replace the lines if you wish to do so. No emissions related vacuum hose come in direct contact with the BCS. It’s pretty much it’s own system.

Well almost. You will need lines for the BCS, another for the BOV, the manifold pressure reference for the Fuel Pressure regulator and you might want to keep the Fuel Pressure Solenoid.

Then there is the plumbing for the PCV too consider.

OK, that stuff is normally retained with a vacuum delete anyways, right? I haven’t done a vacuum delete on a DSM but I did on my 3000gt VR4 which has most of the same parts (FPR, BCS, etc).

Correct. That stuff, save maybe the fuel pressure solenoid, is not normally deleted in a vacuum line reduction.

Some of the solenoids, like the FPS, have been known to throw a CEL if deleted. A deleted FPS may lead to issues with hot starts as well.

I mentioned those because it difficult to know what some people are thinking when they say "full vacuum reduction". Sadly there are examples of people ripping all the hoses out.

I don't know enough about the 2gs to say how much of a fit they are going to throw when you pull the EGR stuff off before you get DSMLink and disable it.

I think you are butchering a stock car. The engine bays still look like garbage without vacuum lines and missing original pieces really hurts resale value to people who are illiterate to working on this platform

Delete the vacuum lines and your just going to make the main bulky engine harness more visible and your car less reliable

On a 2g car removing the egr will throw a cel. I personally didn’t notice any difference in performance or drive ability, just the cel.

If you’re going to remove the FPS leave it plugged in and zip tie it down on the harness if you’re trying to clean things up. I don’t use one any longer and haven’t noticed any hot start problems. I have link so I may have “tuned” it out though.

I bought my gsx completely stock like 13 years ago. If deleting the emissions off of it is butchering then I’ve got mine all butchered up then. Not to mention I’ve removed the cruise control and other things as well. Poor car, guess I’ve ruined it .

I don’t see why deleting emissions related components and the associated vacuum lines would make the car less reliable. I would think it would be more reliable since I’m removing failure points. I’m not doing this to improve the appearance under the hood, only to remove unnecessary things that make servicing the car more difficult. I’m also removing the cruise control (never use it) and installing a braille battery on the frame rail. The car is stock, but it’s an auto…let’s be real, it’s never going to be a fun car in stock form. I’m going to tastefully mod while keeping a stock look as much as possible. Thanks for the tips. I plan on running Link soon, so I’ll turn off any CELs that pop up. My 3000GT started, idled, and ran great with a vacuum delete, egr delete, FIAV bypass, AEM FPR, and hardwired Supra pump. Boost leak testing FTW!

I am keeping everything I remove btw. It’s all going in storage. So not really butchering as much as precision surgery.
