so In process of a rebuild a stock rebuild I came across a set of pistons and rods for a good deal 150$ seems a little to good to be true but Ill put the email of what he said. I guess the question is would you run them Theres only so much my eye can see I guess i could buy a harbor freight micrometer and bring it with me

The motor is a 6 bolt for sure, and the guy that "built" the motor, if you want to call it that, used stock bore pistons in a block that was ovaled, so when he "honed" it the p/w clearances were between 12-15 thousandths each, and ring end gaps between 100 and 125 thousandths each, and other crap that was wrong. I should have just built the motor myself in all honesty, but that's life.

The reason for the teardown was that the motor drank quite a bit of oil, and I had to drive it for a few months until I was able to take it off the road as it was my DD for a little while (my 92 Talon TSi that these are out of) and swap in another 6 bolt motor. I then tore it down pulled out the parts mic'd them all up and realized what was there, the pistons and rods have maybe a couple thousand miles on them but they look older than that because they were burning so much oil, put them through a parts bath and they'll look nice and fresh. No spun bearings or any other damage is present.

I didn't weigh them as I don't have an accurate scale, but there are no wear marks on them besides the normal piston skirt buffing. The pistons are still attached to the rods via the wrist pin and the assemblies are still held together with the cir-clips as well. And I would text or call but I'm still at work unfortunately

Unfortunately, Bogus hasn't been on here in months. He's been backed up with the flooding that happened a few months ago. I'm sure someone else knowledgeable will chime in though.

Take a few pics of the skirts. That would be the most important part to determine condition. Worst case scenario if the cylinders are too big, you can find another block that is still standard bore with cleaner cylinders.

im having him send me more pics I have to blocks standard bore that are good. worst case scenario is the rods are at least useable

-Use pin gauges to check the dimension of the ring lands. They can become pinched.
-Remove a circlip from each and slide out the pins. Measure the pin bores in the rods and pistons.
-Mic the skirts.
-Inspect closely for cracks.
-Cross your fingers and hope there isn't any damage you can't see.
