I am completely new to wiring/speakers uprades so i'm just going to say what i want to put it, and if you all could let me know if it will work/how to do it, i would apreciate it so much!

Speakers

Dash - 1" tweeters

front doors - 6.5"
Back sides - 6 x 9

aftermarket headunit

Can i use the factory amp for the speakers? Would it be easier/sound good? or should i use this amp for the speakers?

Get a small 4ch amp (300 watts) for the inside speakers. Do a component system for the front door and dash speakers. You can use the current amp wires so that you don't need to re-run through out the car. You can also get power and grounds for that amp at the current location.

For subs you will need a cap or "big 3" set up. You will need to run power from the front to the back. you can tap the "switch" on the amp in the front. For input you can go directly from the head or tap the rears.


Hope this helps. I re-did mine recently but haven't done the subs yet.

Try staying away from bandpass boxes, you could blow your subs and wouldn't know it. If you want more thump go with a ported or vented box. Don't use the factory amps for the door speakers you can get a 300-400watt 4ch. for that.

Personally I'd spend the 30 dollars more and buy the Jensen VM9312. I'm not too sure on clearance issues with a flip out and the shifter being right there, I could see someones had slipping off the shifter in a 2-3 shift and demolishing that pretty little screen.

There isn't much of a clearance issue as far as flipouts/flipdowns go... as long as your not trying to flip it in 1st 3rd or 5th. In that case your gonna jam the screen off the shifter. Only way to avoid this is to get a shorty shifter. Feels better anyway than factory.

This is the monitor i have and its completely B.A. No prob with clerarance.

Ditch the factory amp and do something in the 4-500 watt range to run the mids/highs and a single 5-750 watt amp for the sub.

Get a hammer cause you are gonna have to pound the piss out of the area behind the rear speakers. There is about 3" of room mounting the speaker to the stock housing. You could build or buy a spacer to mount the speaker out farther, but you WILL have to cut the trim panels if you do that.

Good luck, and if possible wait until you can afford better components. You will be happier with the sound in the long run.

Well how much do you want to spend? Stay away from no name subs, yea they are cheap, but they sound like shit, will get you laughed at, and you will embarass yourself. You get bass to bump it.

You can get a set of kicker or alpine subs in a couple weeks at a great disocunt for black friday. Get a monoblock amp for the subs and you wont be disappointed in your lows.


As for the front and rears, a 4 channel amp with a 3-way 6x9 for the rear and a component setup in the front will give the most balanced output. The bigger the amp the louder itll be.




As for headunits, Ive been using the Jensen UV and VM series for all my setups. They are great priced, work really nice, look like a caca radio when the cars off so you wont get robbed and have inputs out the ass. I have a UV9 in my stealth and a vm9313 in my 1g that doesnt run . the 9313 has so many features its great.

using the factory amp is going to cause mass amounts of engine noise in most cases also the power output of an aftermarket stereo is about 10 watts rms more than a factory infinity amp, the amp is under the pass. seat so i would go there to tag your speaker wires and just get all your power, ground, and acc wire behind the factory stereo

Reason why i'm going with the duals is because of the lights, , i've seen some youtube videos and they look cool. Also, i'm not looking for pound my hears to death base.

In regards to braking the screen when shifting- i don't need to worry about that because i have an automatic

I read somewhere that the dash speakers won't work if i change the headunit or amp. Is that what the component system is for?

im not sure on your year but if they dont the components will fix for sure, i think they will still work but if you are going to change them you may as well do a component set the sound will be night and day better, as for the duals i have been a professional stereo installer for about eight years and you will hate those speakers, they sound hollow and they dont hit low notes worth a crap, also you will be replacing them all the time cause i see them blow more than any other speaker out there, i know you might want the lights but there are other ways to get neons in your system besides neon rings. just my opinion

another place to check out is nextag.com is you feel like waiting. it will tell you who got it for the cheapest and who is a good seller. i have ordered a lot of stuff of there and never had to wait moer then like 5 days. and you can choose faster shipping options. but as for the stock amp i would just d/c that and leave it under the seat wiring is easy though, positive-positive and neg-neg

I have done a speaker system in every car I have owned. Take it from experience that you DO NOT want to buy cheap speakers!!! As suggested up top you can get awesome deals come black friday or you can look on ebay. I buy all Alpine speakers, because they are of a great quality and for what your looking for, I get each set shipped to my house for 60-70 bucks. Alot of times you can find a seller that has all the sizes you need and get an even better deal. They list for double that in stores. And if you just want a nice bass line without lookin retarded at a stoplight then you could always just get one sub in a box that has some good power if you want it... These "trunks" are small enouhgh as it is

I personally Like Alpine over the Kenwood and Pioneer brands for speakers(not hatin on anybody ), and I normally get a Pioneer deck because they are pretty solid and you can do alot. That and I have had them so long I'm familiar with how they set there head units up ...

I plan on doing my sound system in stages, so if i were to buy speakers, could i just switch them with the stock speakers and run the stock set up? Would i have to run new wires or anything? I know the sound quality may not improve that much due to same power output from amp, just wondering if they will still function if i jsut swap the speakers. Thanks

Whether you go alpine like one guy on hear likes, or pioneer like i like, or i'm sure SOMEONE in the world likes kenwood , I would stick to buying a reputable brand. Buying dual just asks for trouble and short lifespan. Buy once, and buy it right.

I think you would have to take out the panel. its not very difficult. theres like 5 screws and some plastic clips holding it on.

There is also a surrounding trim that holds the speaker itself, you might have to take it out, but its all cake. Have you checked your speakers in the corners of the dash, some good tweeters would be real nice if you place them there.
