I would have merged this wit my smoking after header wrap thread, but i don't know how... so after i installed my header wrap (and it stopped smoking) my underhood temps still tend to get too hot for my liking, after driving through town and then coming to an idle, my heat gauge still rises above halfway mark to make me feel uncomfortable. It goes back down once i start driving and running air through it tho. I'm going to make my own custom heat shield sometime so that will hopefully work but apart from that anyone have any suggestions???

My car has done the same thing, with temp gauge rises and goes back to middle(normal). Last night, I did a complete flush put in new sensor/switch and thermostat. I noticed my t-stat sensor/switch was the orignal from factory(never been changed). Tons of corrosion.

Have you done a coolant flush, replaced both coolant sensor and coolant switch. Replaced any bad hoses. This will take of raising gauge temps. Actual engine temp, a carbon hood with vents would help. Bet, with headers its normal for heat to raise abit due to stock heat shield is removed.

If you havent done that do it, now. You have to remove t-stat housing. Coolant sensor and switch is below it. Dumb design, but easy to get to once upphousung is removed.

Each can be a pita to remove if hasnt been replaced, same with thermostat housing bolts. I recommend add little anti seize to the housing bolts for future.

Coolant Sensor is a 13mm wrench or deep well socket, if its too tight take a deadblow hammer to wrench/ratchet.

Switch is 19mm open end wrench, do same as above crack it loose with a deadblow hammer (2lb. form harbor frieght work for me).

You don't have to use a huge BFH, small hammers work but I used my 2lb its what I grabbed.

Hey, I am havin pretty much the exact same problem. I believe my problems lies with the fan after reading all of this post though, the turbo is right beside the rad and stocker was replaced with a slim and I am not so sure its top of the line. Will do everything else that was mentioned as well, can never hurt to replace the coolant. How is your situation coming along OP? Have you tried all these remedies, if so, how did it do for you?

I have a 1993 Plymouth laser 4G63 and... It's very interesting you described it exactly how I experience mine.
My car has always been 1Cm below half on temp gauge and I decided to put header wrap because I had some extra laying around.

At first mine started smoking too and I was concerned about that!
Then after a day it stopped smoking then out no where every time I stop my temp gauge rises 1 Cm above half and starts going down once I start driving again. I'm also uncomfortable about the feeling. I used to be be 1cm less than half ..... And now I'm always half or some times I fall back to 1 cm below half... And it rises if I stop but not by much.... And cools down once start driving. Take that header wrap off it's a no go!
Take in consideration summer weather.
No more header wraps for me
My radiator is new, all new hoses, thermostat delete, new sensors, new fans and I run AC too in summer.
This issue deff started with the header wrap And idc what anyone says I'm agreeing with you that the wrap keeps the heat trapped inside the wrap.
After 1 month of constantly temp rising and falling... I decided to take wrap off and moment I did that it's stopped climbing.
