Twin turbo? [Merged 11-6]

Comes down to this imo:

Twins on any inline motor is good power potential, but extra cost because of roughly double the parts in anything other than a Skyline (They are the only factory true twin inline motor). Keep in mind the Skyline is a 6cyl and HAS the room to run twins.
300ZX is a V motor, along with 3kGT's, etc. It is much easier for them to run twins and more efficient for packaging reasons. Buick GNs will switch to twins when more power is required, but once again...more parts and they actually have the room to do it.

Sequential setups are frightenly complex and technically challenging. Like someone mentioned before, it takes some fancy gadgets and solenoids, etc to make this work in the first place. RX7s did it with a lot of vac. lines, etc but this failed a lot due to the complexity, the fact that rubber deteriorates especially when exposed to the heat that a rotary puts out. Supra's were a lot less failure prone but ask any stock turbo Supra guy about the switch-over feeling and that one thing is why they all go single. Nothing like being on a dyno and seeing almost 80hp drop in power for almost 500rpms, let alone feeling it while driving.
By the time you get done with all the fabricating, buying the parts, and making it all fit into the engine bay and still make it worth anything over a single setup is going to be next to impossible. And honestly...14b's have run 11s on streetable setups (10s in race), 16g's too. Why all the hassle to put twin's on your streetcar that goes to the track maybe 2-3 times a year? Bragging rights?

93+ Galants btw switched to the 3kGT/Diamonte platform. In Japan the 93+ Galant VR4 was twin-turbo V6, AWD, etc. Not too hard to do a swap really, just need the parts.

For the 2g guys thinking of doing a V6 swap because of the Venger/Sebring theory, find one and actually do some measuring and while the chassis may be similar, you'll find the engine bay is a touch larger. And those few inches in the corners and front can make all the headaches go away, not to mention what are your engine choices? 2.5L V6 rated at 168hp? 3.0L rated at 175? Late 3.0L rated at 205? Talk about downgrades not to mention these motors have been found to be weak over 350hp. And ALL 4G63s can handle over that.....easily. And don't even think about DOHC V6s....they touch firewall to radiator.....without the turbos.

Stick with the single.....it run 6s and 7s and they keep going faster. Doug gave up on it years ago when the money - actual performance ratio was wayyy off. You want style? Go for it.... it'll impress the ricers plenty. I may look at it at first thinking about how cool it is, then i'll start nit-picking on how much stuff you have to pull to change the headgasket, etc.

<---I'm just venting, I'm so tired of stupid people saying that to me... It makes me want to slap them in the face :p I'm well aware that there are a few modified twin-turbo DSM's out there, but it seems more of a novelty (on a nose heavy car why would you want all that extra weight in front of your front axle...)

screw all that im running quad 13b's on my car. yea boyyy. mad boostt

One time I had uh EIII16g in da hood, and 2 t25's and a 14b in my car. It was faaaaast.

Lets just put on 3 big turbos that that ### supra..........and make 600Hp

Anyone know what im talking about?

i think i saw that supra, it was somewhere in AZ. Can't say I've ever had a desire for another turbo. I've taken some crap from a few VR4 guys about having twice as many turbos, but they need it to haul that fat ass around. I'd definitely slap the dumbass who actually thought he knew what he was talking about when he mentioned the TT dsm though.

The girl I was going to buy this GSX from insisted it was tt and got mad at me for saying she was misinformed. I still don't have a GSX...

A kid once told me his civic had turbos in the glove box and he;d pull one off if he didn't need the extra power...

.......you should have told her that she should know more about kitchen appliances then a car because thats where she was heading.

You should have demanded the price be dropped. And the reason being the tranny was going and the hissing from the turbo is why it does that. She wouldent know if it was true or not.

no the best is i picked up one of my buddies and his friend and we were crusing the down the street and i kinda got on it alittle and when the turbo spooled and as i shifted it blew off and when my buddies friend heard the blow off he was like dude this thing got a shift kit in it. i tried not to laugh and with a straight face asked how did you knowROFL

but what really gets me its not even the ppl that are dumb about dsms, its the real stupid ppl, i seen the kid had a buick skylark that must have been that special japanese version casue it was the Buick Skylark GT-R. i swear to god i all most had a heart attack when i seen GT-R badges on each side of this car

Don't you hate when people say man that single turbo Eclipse is Nice....C'mon like some one in there right mind would twin turbo an eclipse

That's like a guy I know who plans engine mods on a fox body by adding up the horsepower gains from each part. ie;

"stock I have 225hp, so with... pulleys: +15, exhaust: +20, CAI: +10, cams: +30, heads: +40 ...I'm putting down about 340hp."

Then he says stuff like "why'd you put the older eclipse turbo (14b) on there, I thought they only had 195hp?".

Depending on who it is, I'll take the ridiculousness further until it's obvious to them that I'm just making fun of them.. Then they're quiet for a while trying to figure out at what point I started completely making shit up versus actually talking about factual things. It makes me laugh.

Don't do this to people who make honest mistakes/have been misinformed.
