Twin turbo? [Merged 11-6]

wtf is the gain from having another turbo. You have one exhaust manifold, you have one turbo. Its simple. People who always ask me if I have thought about taking my 16g out and make it twin turbo are all ricers when I think about it.
 
Actually many people with supra's ditch the twin turbo setup for a single regardless of whether its a daily driver. My firends single turbo supra made 500 whp or maybe close to 600 awhile back and it was a daily driver. Also if you want a twin turbo why not just get a vr-4 and do a weight reduction. Single turbo is the only way to go on a 4cyl and twin turbo is great for v6's, but more power can be made with a single turbo and it saves you the money of having to buy 2 turbos
 
I ran into a guy at Garry Marsh's shop with a competition Stealth r/t with stage 7 mods, street driven. He had a tt setup and 700 awhp.

Edit: Twin turboing a 2l would be more fiesable with the use of two of the small(er) IHI turbos. My 82 cx500 turbo has an IHI which powers 500cc's and only has roughly a 2.5" diamiter compressor housing. There is a slightly larger model which works well on 1000cc's ( i forget the id number, its referd to as the "city turbo"? in the 500t world) and could be used to make a twin turbo system for a 2000cc motor. Now considering my IHI only gives me an additional 35 whp (8500rpm, 496cc, 18.5 psi, 7.2:1 CR), its not really worth it to slap these babies onto a larger motor. But it would make for a pretty show car.

People can't tell a 2G from a Stealth/3KGT. Those asking this question about T/E/Ls also can't tell a water faucet from a gas pump.

Which is small surprise. They can't get into their heads that putting more than one turbo on a 4-cylinder is no less stupid than putting four turbos on, one per cylinder.

There are many things that can be done, but make no earthly sense in actually doing.

Some people was talking a lot of smack about the two cylinder per turbo I think it would work great. If you can put eight turbos on a small block chevy and push 800+ hp why not??? If you can spool A 21hp briggs and stration at 10psi with a t-25 anything is possible.
 
What car are you going to be able to fit a small block and 8 turbos???

And that bike is the only decent thing Dodge has ever came up with. I've dreamt about it for years since it came out. Imagine a top speed of 400mph, on a motorcycle..
Maybe that's why someone wanted to do it, hahah.
 
Well the twin turbo thing in a DSM topic is getting old..... IF you want a Twin Turbo get a Supra or a 3000GT.

If you wanna do an engine swap get a Honda or a Pontiac Fiero.

Lastly if you want a nice car with a awesome engine in it, that has a massive amount of potential, stay with with your SINGLE turbo DSM!

57 Chevy
8 turbos and a LS1 making just over 700hp. That's really inefficient if you ask me. Very clean car and install though, great for show. It has all the specs on the site I linked.

What a joke, that would be a lot of possible boost leaks. LOL I wonder how it sounds though, thats a lot of spooling!

Wow that bike was nice, it really goes 400mph? Who the hell is dumb enough to go that fast, especially on a bike? Any one knows how much hp it has?

It's theoretically possible for it to hit 400mph. I don't think anyone has been dumb enough to actually prove it yet.
 
Twin Turbo isnt efficient in alot of cars, hence the fact "SINGLE TURBO CONVERSION"
 
Well I guess I'll be the one to say that it isn't as hard as one may think to have a twin turboed v-6 dsm. For the 2 g guys that is. What it takes is a 2g n/t dsm add the v-6 drivetrane from a avenger and then add the twin turbo setup. Can it be done yes, practical no.
 
There was someone on colorado dsm or is it rocky mountian dsm, that stuffed a 3kgt vr4 engine into a galant vr4. It didn't look like you could fit your hand between the firewall and the motor. Not a very practical swap but it was still cool to see someone do it though.
 
I know my mechanic who is on that forum a lot put a 3kgt 6 speed into his Diamante. He was going to swap the turbo motor but he sold it to some dumb kid for a lot of money.
 
The concept is great, but the work done to the above cars is really really bad...!

I can see a twin turbo setup with a custom TIG welded manifold, nice custom aluminum piping and a well overall installation with either a FMIC or PWR water cooled IC.

The 1g car with the twin turbo setup has really bad welds, I mean they could have at least smothen/grind the welds and paint the piping to a matching color, remove the cruise control and EGR related components to make the engine bay cleaner, and used single color on their vacuum hoses, not mention clean up the engine bay and replace rusted bolts. That would haven given it a better review, and maybe gain more interest for projects on "SHOW-CARS" where custom things like this matter more than just flashy add-ons. to give an idea:

Obviously for performance purposes well this is not a bright idea on a 4g63 motor, like mentioned before even twin-turbo supras switch to a single turbo to make more power.

Just my 0.2 cents.
