What is the point of doing 5th gear pulls on public roads? Sounds irresponsible to me. Absolutely no need for anyone to ever try and go that fast on the roads. 5th gear has major repercussions and things don't last long with that kind of load. It took us a long time to figure out how to keep 800hp together at the salt flats.

I must agree with Stephen here. Bad things are going to happen if you continue to do 5th gear pulls, with either your trans failing or a high speed accident. 5th gears for cruising only!

I think the head gasket has been leaking for awhile, my temps had been acting funny for awhile , creeping up and down. I think it was time for a new headgasket. I want to get a look at the cylinders anyway. I was spraying meth and running rich so it wasn't catastrophic , the engine still runs ok, coolant isn't mixing with oil. I'm pretty sure it was the 5th pull.... can't that be dangerous? Load wise

The 5th gear pull was on a highway guys, either way to be honest as my car has gotten faster I don't feel safe driving it period on the street. You get goin very quickly, it's one of those things people don't understand who say they need 1000hp for the street. It's pointless and just dangerous on the street. The 5th gear pull was an oversight on my end guys. Just one of those stupid things I shouldn't of done.

I'm curious, in 5th gear are you really loading that much more than 4th? I wasn't even going fast guys. I have the log when it happened, I'll post it later

The gears are just smaller and engineered for half the power you're at. Plus you aren't getting the lubrication either, even if the gears were larger in size the heat that's generated is going to kill your 5th gear eventually .

High load and low RPM creates havoc. Something you never want to do, if you dont have to.
To what NB4G63T said, could it kill your fifth gear, maybe, but that isnt the major problem it will cause. What its going to do is place a load on your engine that could blow it sky high or send a rod through the block. Bearings could get trashed, etc.
Either way moral of the story, dont do 5th gear pulls starting out in 5th haha.

Back to the HG, if that car was ran with that much timing in one of the first posts ~ 20-30 deg, that can cause a HG to blow. Just because e-85 has better properties then gas doesnt mean you should push it until you see knock. When tuning E-85 it helps to tune via the torque curve and to have an understanding of where and when your torque drops off, this insures the most robust tune. Todays day and age, all cars are tuned via torque, be it torque command or whatever.

Just my opinion though. Im actually doing a hg as well on my 2.0 NT. Figured why not, my valve stems seals were leaking and its something I can knock out in a Saturday haha.

5th gear is weak in our transmissions without some sort of modification. The only thing "holding" all that load is the end cap on the transmission. I'd be interested in hearing what biglady can divulge as far as details on getting 5th gear to hold high horsepower/torque.
