I am in the middle of collecting all of the parts to do a Turbo conversion, so far I have:
SmartFire 650cc Injectors (HI)
Walbro 190
TD05 Big 16G
EGT
Boost Gauge
Turbo Exhaust Manifold
Oil/Coolant Feed/Return Lines
FMIC
Type-S BOV

What I need still:
ARP Head studs
Hotter Sparkplugs
SAFC
O2 Housing
Custom DP

I'm using an EBay 16G for now, (yea I know, eBay turbos are shit, blah blah blah) I WILL BE UPGRADING LATER! Lol.

I won't be doing a Turbo ECU swap, I will be using the SAFC and SmartFire is sending me a set of 440cc Injectors (HI) that will work with the stock ECU.

If the timing isn't too out of wack, this should be fun, it if is, I'll do a GST ECU swap OR I will reflash my black box ECU to a GST stock tune.

During Swap: (Yes i DO have a bov, i didn't cut out a section during the time of this pic. also no exhaust, jpipe, or preturbo intake

What's the question? Or you looking for opinions? Honestly I would ditch the safc completely and go with 95 eprom ecu running dsmlinkv3light, better to tune with. And second get quality parts or you'll regret going halfass. You could find real 16gs for less than $300. Are you going to run internal? I would think twice about that unless you run a šmall exhaust system or go external, last thing you want is your turbo creeping and blowing your motor better safe then sorry.

I'm using this write up for my swap http://4g64.150m.com/turbo.html

Stock turbo 450cc will work with your ECU, you just need a resistor box. And the Spyder GS ECU is flashable.

In all honesty your trying to reinvent the wheel here. Just swap in a Black Box or EPROM ECU, wire in a resistor box, drop in some Lo-Z 450-650cc injectors, and be done with it.

I agree with Wes, why use a "cheater" device like an safc when you are fully capable and able to do a ECU swap that works great and gives you all kinds of options. This seems silly.

I would re think using an ebay turbo. I know a guy who blew his motor when his ebay turbo shredded, sending metal chunks into his oil.

X2 i had badluck with one myself. Its like even though its new, they definitely don't come %100 out of the box. Small wastegate hole and horrible water & oil sealing issues. I managed to seal up everything that did drip just to have it burning oil from inside along with oil in my FMIC for the first time. Thankfully the design of the IC kept the oil from traveling any further !

X3... Don't use the ebay turbo as the others have stated. I had a 16g I bought from another vendor, but it was still ebay quality. It seized on first start. Just save up for a proper turbo and keep your GS running until you get it.

Sure it is!

SFI 440s will work with no resistor box since they're high impedance.

is a black box. i can show you. the only difference in the GS is that the fuel pump pin is different.

I'm using this write up for my swap Turbocharging the 4G64

interal wastegate with ported flapper. i'm using that site for my swap too. my exhaust is 2.25" but i'm going bigger.

^ this. You need to be able to monitor knock. And without some way to change the stock timing (link) on that 9:1 comp engine, it'll puke pieces of piston into your oil pan. Ask me how I know...

Yes, the 98/99 Spyder GS ECU can be flashed. My mistake.

But that just further illustrates my point: If you have a flashable ECU, then why even waste your time and money on an SAFC?

that is true. i might go with ECUFlash with ceddymods but there isn't much support left with that program. $180 for the cable and the software is free though. tempting.

i might just have to go with a GST ECU then.. is the ecu transferrable between auto & stick? and its a 9.5:1 comp just sayin.

I thought 4g64s were 9:1. Yes auto and manual 2g turbo ecus are identical. Ecmlink is impressive no doubt! I love it. It simplifies a lot of things, and data logging is unparalleled.

nope 64s are 9.5:1 and 420a's are 9.2:1 i think. and sweet! yea ECMlink is simple, but ECUFlash isn't very (black box ecu programmer)
