alright umm my engine gave out on me a 180xxx miles and my dad found a performance built 420a, that has totally been redone, i can throw a turbo on this right and will it be able to handle psi like a 4g63?

What engine is in your car right now?
If you have a Tsi like your profile says then you have a 4g63.
If this indeed is your case, a 420a is not going to drop into a Tsi body. Its like the opposite of the 420a to 4g63 swap. Either way its not just a simple swap and its not worth it.
Agian I dont know if this is your case but its what I am seeing from your profile. If I am incorrect let me know and Ill try and answer your question accordingly.

Regardless, you can't just take someone elses "performance built redone" motor. I don't think either, that you can just "throw a turbo on" and expect it to take pounds of boost. We need more information. I'm assuming your a 420a. We need motor specs, and what it was built with. Yadda yadda yadda.

Even if you have a 420a and put in a built 420a, there's a lot that goes into running any fun amount of boost. You would need to put together an entire turbo kit, gauges, fuel system, something to tune with for high boost (i.e. Megasquirt or Portfueler)

A 420a was not designed with the idea of being boosted. There is many things you have to get around in order to boost any 420a.
Such as the map sensor, its not meant to read postive pressure, if it does the ecu will start fuel cut.
Way around: Missing link/Fuel cut defender
Fuel system, the stock ecu wont control bigger injectors, but you need more fuel when you are under boost. So most of the turbo 420a's get a 12:1 fmu, this raises fuel pressure to get more fuel. But this is very limited on how much boost you can run. Your fuel pressure is pretty much through the roof at 8psi. So thats the limit on the 12:1 fmu, stock injectors, and walbro 255hp pump. Another way is getting a sfmu, which will control bigger injectors (it allows you to control idle and static fuel pressure). But this still only gets you to about 16psi (Im pretty sure this is what i have heard, someone correct me if im wrong). The next step up is either portfueler or megasquirt. Portfueler being the simpler route adding 4 injectors. Megasquirt being a standalone ecu or piggyback if you want.

Anyway im just showing that its not like just get a built 420a and slap a turbo on it. And its the same way for any car. Even in the 4g63 you need to do modification to your fuel system in order to get it to handle a good amount of boost.

Sorry for the length

...my car is a TSI....my engine crankwalked on me and i was wondering if i could drop a 420a in my car....im not saying i want to take a 420a car and throw a turbo on it...im just asking if i can put a 420a in a 4g63 car....

Sure you can. You need a trans, axles, wiring harness, ECU, and all the accessories from a 420a car (alternator, ps pump, a/c)
*someone correct me if i'm wrong on the accessories, never had a 420a car.

Point is, it is possible but you'll end up spending a lot more than finding a used 4g63 or buying a blown one and building it.

If you plan to swap it into the TSi, you're looking at a crapload of work. The two engines are not easily interchangable.

I suggest rebuilding or replacing your 4G63 with another 4G6X engine.

^^^ find another 4g63... obviously if you go with the 420a you are gonna hafta swap out you entire engine bay/drivetrain and all the other things that go along with that

I see at least 1 motor for sale on here or dsmtrader every week. Usually more than that even. Since a 4g63 motor will be a direct replacement AND its stronger than the 420a why not go that route? Even better, if you're up for a little bit more challenging but worthwhile swap the 1g motors make a great replacement in 2g's. Just search 6 bolt swap and you'll have more information than you can shake a stick at. Good luck with any route you go!
