quick question.. Did a little searching but didnt find much.. If a turbo sits for a while say three months, will the seals possibly go bad? Anything that you should worry about other than shaft play. I got a 14b I bought and supposedly it was perfect but it smokes a little and didnt know if that was from sitting in a garage for ever...

Turbo seals are tiny pistons rings....if your car sits for three months, do the piston rings go bad?

Sounds to me like you're sourcing the oil feed from the filter housing.

If you take a used 14B which has been fed from the head (low pressure, low volume) it's entire life from the factory on a 1G and suddenly give it tons of flow with high pressure (-4AN from the filter housing), it's going to result in oil burning.

I appreciate the comparison and thanks for the tid bit about the filter housing.. I am going from the filter housing so that clears that up.

Find yourself a 1G hard metal feed line and banjo bolt, then move the oil source to the head and see if your smoking stops. If it does, you've found the solution to your problem.

If the smoking persists or if you want to keep running the oil supply from the filter housing, the turbo should be rebuilt. At the very least a 14B is 16 years old....the spring steel used in the turbine seals tend to get weak as a result of many hot / cold cycles in the last 16-20 years.

Tru.. I just bought a g60 today so I have to get a couple goodies before I can put it on.. It is new so it shouldnt be a problem running from the filter... Would you recommend running from the head in general?
