turbo intall now problem

i finished installing 16g, tubular manifold, o2 dump, fmic, down pipe exhaust, running stock fuel. it's giving me problems when wot. it'll go over boost up to 20 psi on the gauge. the dump pipe pop very loud just like launch control when high boost.

i had the same set up with my 99 gst but without the o2 dump. that ran fine without any problem even on high boost.

clueless. all i can think of is maybe it need a tune. i do have ecmlink right now in the car too but i don't know how to tune the car.

did 2nd gear pull just to see how it went. got all the way up to 5k rpm then knock started to show and goes up to 6 counts of knock. when i hit 5k rpm the dump pipe start to pop like crazy (like launch control) and over boosting up to 20 psi then i let go of the gas. the car will bog and act like it doesn't want to keep going.

When your driving and that happens does the o2 dump bck a pop sound and the engine jerks? Mine does that I have a Evo 3 16g eBay o2 dump n punishment racing FMIC stock fuel not tuned and whenever I hit high RPS like 5 or 6 sometimes not all my o2 housing makes a pop sound and the engine jerks like and stops going but if I let off the gas n get on it again it goes makes the popping soundand jerking again! I don't have a Boost set up so I don't know if it's over boosting like yours is! It's werid tho I have kinda the same problem as you with the same set up

Well, now that I read it a couple times it sounds like the wastegate is not opening where it should...maybe the actuator is bad. You're also getting knock due to the lack of fuel

before you do any damage , lower the boost down until you fix your fuel issues , go with bigger injectors if you want to run anything higher than 16 psi + upgrade your fuel pump and rewire it.

getting the above fuel stuff needs tunning and you need to have a tunning device.

and do check for boost leaks.

i'll do boost leak test and compression. i just don't know why it did that. my set on my 99 gst didn't do anything like that at all. the only thing difference is that the 99 gst doesn't have the o2 dump.

just like mannyssj13 said. get to around 5k rpm then pop goes the wheel. jerks a lot. i know the boost gauge is correct.

so you guys think more fuel and tuning right? i do have the 1000cc and 255 pump but not install yet. until i get it tune and dyno.

the dyno shop looked at my ecmlink graph when i did 3rd gear pull and said i'm running pretty lean at 5k rpm. and knock is showing a lot up to 6 counts.

how much knock is to much?

my boost should be stock right. i have not put in a boost controller yet. it's still routed as stock. from boost solinoid to waste gate and T with j pipe.

here is a log. you can open it if you have ecmlink install to your comp. idles fine. drives fine. wot was fine til i hit 5k rpm.

your fuel has nothing to do with why it's over boosting, test your wastegate actuator to see where it's opening (at what pressure). 20psi on stock fuel is a no-no. But ask yourself why is it getting there in the first place...it might even be boost creep

I had a problem with this same set up on my 90 awd with an EVOIII 16g and external dump. I got rid of the dump tube, fixed a cracked exhaust housing and ported my waste gate whole it helped alot. I still get knock at 12 lbs and thats with a rewire 255, 40psi fpr and a ported O2 housing. I hope this helps.

Boost creep?

These wouldn't be eBay parts, would they? If so, your problem lies with the dime-sized wastegate hole in the 16G's turbine housing.

You need to turn this:

I agree. The internal wg cant keep up with the spool/flow of the turbo to properly limit boost. Something i've seen alot with internal wg turbos after adding intake and exhaust mods.

i fix the o2 dump popping. all i did was change my plug to ngk bpr6es and gap at .028. the old champions are way fouled out and the gap were at .040. had a little idle issue after the bpr6es but it went away guessing it needs to get use to it.

now the problem is that i cant hold boost. keeps going over 20psi. i routed the jpipe nipple straight to the wastegate without a bc. still going over 20psi. i also connect the two hose together coming from the bcs. shouldn't be a problem if i connect them two hose right wrether then capping it off.
