Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, 1998 GSX. I'm not too familiar with how the recirculation logic is on these engines. Previous owner capped two intake ports and the valve cover is vented to an air filter. Just wanted to make sure if this setup was proper? (Edit: and there is a MAF just ahead of the coupler, it's not pictured)

Car only has bolt ons nothing big, running an internal wastegate. Emissions have been deleted by previous owner. I'd love to add a BOV but i've heard it'll make the engine not run optimally without supporting mods. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks so much

You’re actually not in bad shape.

This is your BOV:

Remove the valve cover breather filter and run a hose from the valve cover to here:

Dude you rock! Thank you

With the BOV i meant external, but I'm realizing that it's the wastegate not BOV. love the sound but heard not to do it unless it's built etc etc

A blow off valve is a blow off valve, it works or doesn’t, if you want it louder for whatever reason you’d dump it to the atmosphere, but being you’re using a stock draw through style maf that’s not a possibility without causing issues right now. Has nothing to do with how built the engine is, etc. The blow off valve you have now is not a stock one, just a Chinese Greddy knockoff that as long as it’s working isn’t a problem as it’s recirculated the way it should be.

The last port on that intake is to recirculate the air from the factory boost control solenoid when it's leaking down the pressure to the wastegate.

You need speed density to run the BOV vented to atmosphere. You would need an engine management system that supports that, and then the MAF would be replaced by a MAP and IAT sensor.

Ahhh I see. Thanks everyone for clarifying things up. I'm assuming I don't have a factory BCS because the car has an aftermarket internal wastegate or emissions deleted? Previous owner said it's set for stock boost

Just to add info to the vent to atmosphere (VTA) BOV - the air you are getting is metered (accounted for) by the MAF. This means the computer is calculating the amount of air based on the MAF's readings, so any air discharged by the BOV is included in that calculation. If you VTA now, you will run rich when your BOV vents because the ecu thinks that vented air is going into the intake instead of going PSSHHH outside.

Speed density calculates air differently so VTA works fine.
