Hey everyone. I wil be upgrading my turbo soon, but want to know which will be harder to tune. I have never tuned a car before, but am not new to electronics (and Im a fast learner). I will be tuning this via SAFC2, while using a data logger and EGT gauge. Which one will be harder to dial in? I would rather get the To4b, because it is the same price. But if it is very hard to tune, I'll just go with the evo16g. Thanks.

The airflow changes, but the concept of tuning is the same. Moved to General. See the FAQs for more specifics.

Do you have any guides for this? Im not talking about fuel injectors, pumps, afprs, and the like. Im talking about how wisemen and mods talk to noobs about not getting a 50 trim for their first mod because it is hard to tune.

Use the upgrade path provided on the site in conjunction with the FAQs on tuning to your advantage.

A turbo should NEVER be a first mod IMO.

i don't think thats what hes saying, i know that he already has a bunch of other stuff i've seen it

I pretty much have everything in the upgrade path. Im not a noob here. Just at tuning. I want to know if its going to be difficult (relatively speaking) to tune this compared to the evo16g turbo.

And derrick. I guess you know what turbo I want now. :D

tuning isn't based on turbo....assuming everything else is the same you won't notice a change in the difficulty of adjusting the fuel and timing curves.

Big turbos need big injectors, and big injectors can be harder to tune with only an AFC. 550cc injectors are easy to tune for newbie tuners because they're not too much bigger than stock.

From what I understand, 650's aren't too much harder to tune than 550's. I wont be running insane amounts of boost intitially. I suppose I could hit 14-15lbs with 550's, and around 20 with 650's? Any comments?

Update your profile.

You have a point, but my original question had nothing to do with 'what mods should I do'. I asked (vaguely to an extent) which would be harder to tune via safc. All I want is an answer. OMG

I think your original question was answered already.
In order for any of us to answer your next question, which is;

FALSE: A larger turbo does not always flow more air. I have gone over this a million times and people still will not listen. Here is a link so that you can educate yourself.

Not intending to be rude...I just wish people would bother to read the FAQ posts. Especially if they are going to "spread" information.

Which part of my post was false? All of it? Or just the part where I offered the summary, "big turbos need big injectors"? To call my whole post 'false' is rude, especially since the main point was to show why a big turbo might be harder to tune than a small turbo. The point was that using big injectors is what makes a big turbo hard to tune. Would you disagree with that?

I hope you can excuse my first reply for not going into excruciating detail here in the Newbie forum. I was trying to keep it simple.

Thanks for posting the link. I followed that thread back when you first wrote it. It was a good idea to formally cover the topic in one comprehensive post. It's interesting that your thread covers almost the same info I wrote about some time ago.

BTW, I didn't say the turbos, whichever size, would be used at the same boost pressure. Generally speaking a smaller turbo does best at lower boost, and a bigger turbo can handle higher boost. If one setup pushed more air than another, then more fuel is also needed.

If anyone feels like offering a different opinion, I'd prefer you first read the link that Crankbender posted. It has tons of good info.

Sorry I was specifically speaking about the bigger injectors. As I know you know but didn't explain the injectors need to be sized on airflow and bigger turbos do not always flow more air.

If you want to dig back through the annals of the sight and see some of the original discussions here ya go

Actually this originally wasn't in the newbie forum. Some mod apparently misintrepted the original post. :|

I suppose I'll continue searching for my answer.

Incorrect. You asked a turbo vs. turbo question with no listed mods nor history on your car. It doesn't get more noobish.
