Hey guys i need help with choosing a tuning device for my car. I have a 97 eclipse gs spyder 2.4 ltr. i swapped over a 98 gsx ecu and complete factory turbo setup. I'm really lost when it comes to tuning electronics on cars. I figured the safc 2 was the way to go, but i heard of the mas translator and i understand the maft pro works like the safc but easier to use? Then i got a curve ball thrown about the evo scan software that can now tune our 98-99 dsm ecus. I'm at a fork here and just need help. If i can manage to tune this thing and hit 300hp i would die happy but i just need advice with a device. thank you!! PS a guy offered my a super afc with the knobs on it for $50 is that a good device to tune with?
 
That adjust the fuel, you need a wideband, translator helps i have one but dsmlink will be a great device new price too, even the ecmlite which can be upgraded.
 
So which engine are you using or are you on the GSX all together according to you listed vehicle?
 
i'm running the 2.4 ltr engine sohc until its tuned then swapping over a fully ported dohc with 272 cams and adjustable cam gears.

ecm link requires a eprom ecu right? Is the eprom hard to install into a 97 eclipse? I never really read too much up on it, i figured it was not worth the hassle.

I'm confused now kinda. You are going to tune the 2.4 and THEN swap over to the 4g63? Why not just save your money until you do the swap...

ECMLink needs an eprom yes. Well it's 1000x easier to replace than an engine as it's just located behind the radio and held on by a couple screws. Look into running a flashable 98/99 ecu as well. (You stated you swaped in a 98 ECU into the car already so why did you ask if it's hard to put an ECU in???)


Why the porting and which brand of cams are you going to use as they are all different. Any internals going in, new turbo, valve train etc.?

Sorry for the trouble. right now its the 2.4 liter sohc engine. in a few monthes i'm swapping the head from single to dual over head cam. the cams in my dohc are brian crowler 272 type, double coil valve springs, 1mm over sized valves with a full race port. right now my turbo is a td04hl 13t when the head goes in i'm installing a 20g. The ecu install is not a real issue i just was curious if there was more involved then a plug and play of the ecu. I have not decided on the bottom end yet, I'm torn between 2.1 destroker since i have a 4g63 crank in the basement or just getting a .30 bore on the 2.4 and running forged pistons and rods. As far as the flashable ecu's i am a bit confused what you mean. the ecu i have now is the black plastic case from a end of the year 98 gsx it is flashable according to the thread on tantrix flashing software, is that what you mean?
