Tuning......bout to lose my mind

ok guys so i have a datalogger, ETG, and s-afc II, most of the time i have had my friend tune my car for me simply becuase he could do it hell of a lot faster then i could. Could somebody give me an explanation of the aspects of tuning, what i should be looking for, how the car should feel...etc. I really want to get into tuning more but simply can't becuase i don't know what to look for. I know my cars running way to rich as i can smell the raw gas. but it does run pretty good. Any feedback would help thanks
