tubular exhaust manifold

Tubular's tend to crack (esp cheep ebay ones)

you can find a 2g mani ? ive got 2 of them sitting on my shelf.
If your willing to spend over $100 for one that will most likley fail, then
im sure you should have no problem spending the same money for one that
will out-last your car.

I also have an extra one just lying around. It still has the 2g fuel rail on it as well, but it has been out of the car for about 4 or 5 months so the injectors probably need some cleaning. It has about 60k miles on it. PM me if you are still looking for one.
WTF Um...not to be an ass, but he's talking about an exhaust manifold, not an intake manifold. But It's cool that your trying to help, and thanks to helpful people like you this site is awesome!

As far as the original poster's question, if you have a DD you should look into an EVO III or a SBR cast manifold. If it's just a track car then the tubular would be good, I would check on some of the vendors' stuff over that eBay special manifold though, they don't have the best track record.

unless you have alot of money to throw around I'd look into a ported 2nd gen, an Evo or an SBR cast manifold

a ported 2nd gen will go a long way.

an evo 3 is better

Tubular is nice, but is not recommended for a daily driver because they WILL crack in time...no matter who makes it.

Woops, I could have sworn I saw intake manifold on there. Oh well then i guess I dont really have anything relevant to this discussion haha. Sorry about that. Next time I will try to read a little better.

To the original poster most people don't like the ebay tubulars as they have been known to crack but I had one on my old setup and if you check my profile pics I am going to be running one on my new setup too. They spool better than a 2g manifold and outflow them aswell. The only reason people don't like them is because of fear of cracking. Most will say because they're not equal length models that they don't flow as good but I will tell you they def do. It's up to you. For me the risk of crackin is worth it cause I got mine in a combo deal with a 02 housing that I know will work out for around 250 shipped. Most companies sell good 02 housings for that much alone so if the manifold fails I still got what I would have had anyway a good o2 housing.:thumb:

There are multiply threads about socalled EBAY manifolds.

pix of them falling apart. i dont have the link, but id never trust it.

LOL ok I got ya I was jokin anyway but I had meant to ask what's up with that for a while as it's not the first time I noticed our pic. In all serious don't believe the broken manifold pic hype. Check my profile pics I have one hooked up to a GT14 that thing dosen't bounce of give like anything that's gonna break and people always complain about the downpipe weighing it down news flash "THE EXHAUST IS BRACKETED AND HELD UP!!!"

What if you were to weld on some support braces onto the ebay tubular? To prevent cracking, any bit of strength should help? Also, tubulars look pretty sweet!

I have heard of people doing that and its not a bad idea. Just make sure you find a good place to mount a bracket to. Also I have used 2 different tubular exhaust manifolds and neither of them broke and both seem to work really well.

At the risk of people jumping allll over me, I will say Ihave had ALOT OF success with a pacesetter header froms Summitt Racing. Not only is it 159.99, all you have to do is wrap it and brace it well and you have an amzing exhaust manifold that fits Mitsu turbos amazingly. Pacesetter people, pacesetter!

I think that tubular's have a bit of a bad rap because there's so many variables that contribute them breaking. I mean if it's a daily driver of course it's not going to last as long as a cast piece, and then if the exhaust is hung properly, like if it's off to one side or the other and putting undo stress on the header, or if it's supporting the weight of the turbo and the exhaust. Then if you have it coated and/or heat wrapped and if it's braced properly. There's so many things to consider. I personally would like to be able to justify buying a tubular but I'm trying to make a maintenence free as possible ride, and worrying about my tubular in my DD is another thing that I don't want to deal with.

i have a tubular manifold (ebay special) on my talon i havnt had any problems yet consider the car only ran two days then the turbo came apart on me but so far to good it does crack ill just have my freinds dad make me a manifold and cut my flandges off my current one and weld it to that one.

I hope he's good cause one you would have to find SS that can be bent but is thick enough to hold up to boost and two be able design a good working manifold that won't hurt flow. In a nut shell if your ebay goes bad just buy a dnp or something.

well he welds for a living and any piping i would ever need he could get it from work but i do understand what your saying ill have to do a little more research if i would to do this

Interesting you're having such success....we bought a Pacesetter at the beginning of last summer for my buddy's 2G and runner #4 (all the way in the back- the hardest one to see) completely broke away from the collector in less than 4k miles and 8 months drive time.

We contacted the company for warranty, and they claimed that because the header was wrapped that the warranty was void....yeah, like the wrapping was the main reason that their sh!tty steel cracked.

I'm done with Pacesetter, for good.

We scrapped the Pacesetter before I ever got to take pics, but I did have this experience with a cast SBR Manifold this past summer as well:

If it were my buck, I'd spend it on the EvoIII mani.
