After spending the past year restoring a 420a eclipse I was t-boned and my ride was totaled. Now I am starting all over but this time with a bone stock 4g63t model. I love the power of the turbocharged model and I have been stalking this forum hard trying to learn what mods I can do to help the car run better without ruining reliability. Im only looking for modest gains in performance and I'd be happy. Unfortunately for me most of the info I've found is more about guys trying for maximum performance. I was thinking about a new intake. Also I've read alot about how bad the stock bov is but I'm unsure if I Would benefit by swapping to a 1g bov since I'll be keeping the car will close to stock specs. Any knowledge you guys can share will be greatly appreciated

Also I'd like to add that I've worked on cars for years but its mostly been on pick up trucks. Im excited to learn about these turbocharged cars

Intake, exhaust, manual boost controller will wake that car right up.

Other items to have that will always be needed is a boost controller, wideband, and something to log with. Palm loggers are free, just need an od1 cable, which you can make yourself for $7.

After you can monitor the changes you'll be able to up the boost 2 or 3lbs depending on the car. It will feel like an entirely new car.

After that it gets expensive and you'll need a tuner like link. But just take it slow.

#1 mod. Swap that bov with an evo 9 or X bov (the aluminum one). direct swap.
#2. Boost gauge. Even a $20 Bosch from auto zone works well.
#3. Intake. With recirc. Find one used, or from chrome intakes on eBay.
#4. Exhaust from O2 housing back. Eliminate the cat if you can or install a hi flow cat. I am completely happy with my eBay setup. Fits better than my apexi.
This is assuming all maintenance is done first. You will feel noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info. I'm in the process of completing the routine maintenance now. I'm trying to educate myself now so once I finish that I know what direction to start modding. From what I read if I do the stage 1 mods it should be reasonable in cost and still keep the reliability I need for a daily driver. Since I never intend to build a race car which bov would be best? I've read about crushed 1g and also the evo 9

I like the evo much better than the 1g. I actually felt a difference, and the 1gs tend to have an annoying squeak, plus you need an adaptor for the 1g. However, if you plan on replacing the stock intercooler piping it's very hard to find an evo flange. Most aftermarket pipes are flanged for a 1g, GReddy or HKS bov.
If you don't plan on replacing the stock pipes anytime soon, or if you're going to get a fmic sometime later, get the evo now and you can always sell it quickly. I've found two recently for $40-50. One on CL and one off a member here. You can get a 1g for $25-40 but you'll need the $20 adaptor. If you're planning on a 1g on stockish boost levels, go with uncrushed.

I found a deal on a greddy type fv valve with a rec. adapter. Would this be a good buy for me or will it raise my boost psi. too high for my stock setup? If not I will get the evo as suggested .

make sure it's an authentic GReddy.
Honestly I prefer my evo over my GReddy. I'm constantly fiddling with the GReddys adjustment settings, and it tends to have a little chirp when after light throttle.
Get an evo and call it a day. You won't be disappointed.

Ok the evo it is.... But on a side note I thought the adjustment on the greddy was to control under how much boost it opened. I see I have more research to do.
