trouble starting. rebuild??

Most aftermarket rods use a bushed pin the 420a are press fit so it will not work with stock pistons unless you can find a set of rods for pressed pins.

But I currently have a set-up that uses stock rods and 10.5 JE's. I had the machine shop bore out the small end of the rod, to accomodate the full float wrist pin of the JE's. Of course, the shop will charge you extra for that and then you will still be limited to the strength of the stock rod. One of the reason's that many just go with the Eagles when they rebuild for turbo.

As for oil pump, I would recommend OEM. The HD Melling has a higher failure rate than I like to see (you could ask slo2g on here about that, LOL). And yes, you should do the water pump and timing components on a rebuild (along with bearings, gaskets, pistons rings etc.).

ive just came in from getting the head off the block. the valves seem ok. just really cruddy looking. and the tops of the pistons is the same deal. tomorrow the motor is coming out.
(im waiting on a engine hoist. and a engine stand) as soon as i get those i will know the extent of the ring damage as well as any damage to cylinder walls.
