Hey fellow dsmers,

I have a 91 GSX. Awhile back I noticed it felt a little notchy going into gears 2 and 3. Thought maybe it was time for a new clutch. Drove the car to my shop and got it on the lift. After installing the new parts and putting the tranny back in the car would crank however wouldn’t turn over. Car sat for awhile but I’m want to get her back up and running. Any tips or advice on how to diagnose what’s going on would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What have you checked? Any crucial sensor you could have touched is suspect. Cam angle sensor and coolant temp are right there on trans side.check connections.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to take the tranny and clutch back out to make sure it was installed properly and then go from there. I did notice the coolant temp sensor connector may need to be addressed as it looks like it could be have been a casualty. I wasn’t aware that it could prevent the car from starting. Figured it would prevent the car from reading the temp but didn’t think it would prevent the car from turning over. Appreciate your time!

I dont see the need to pull trans. You said it cranks but doesn't start? On the coolant sensor if it doesn't read it default to cold temp so the ecu will add fuel. It can start but typically unless its actually cold outside its too much and the car will flood and won't start. I would see if you have spark, fuel etc. I would not start with a trans drop. No need.
