This is on a 1995 Talon TSi AWD Automatic Tranny

Okay, so yesterday I pulled my transfer case in order to pull my oil pan so I can fix the oil leak. Well I started prying on the transfer case with a crowbar, and i got it almost all the way off, when suddenly Transmission fluid dumped everywhere.

Why did transmission fluid come out? I read somewhere that it may have been the input shaft slipping out of the transmission. Is this a major problem, or can I just slide the input shaft back in place and go about my business?

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.

It would be the output shaft, and it's easy to see if it's still in the transmission. Just look up there where the T-case goes, and if you see a little stubby shaft sticking out of the transmission that's it.

Check your transfer shaft make sure its there and then check your shaft seal on the tranny side. You should be able to just slide the shaft back in, if it is missing. Also you shouldn't need to use a prybar on your transfer case. Obviously it's too late now, but just put the tranny in neutral, chock the wheels :thumb: . Then push up on the rear of the case and wiggle it off. Don't forget to put a little grease on the splines when you reassemble. I've done this job twice so ask any q's.

How difficult is it to pull of the transfer case anyways? I assume just unbolt the diveshaft and the bolts that attach the Tcase to the tranny and it slides off? Drain the fluid obviously. Are the bolts hard to get to/get off?

Taking the transfer case off is easy. Just undo all the bolts (and drop the driveshaft) and either use a pry bar or a hammer + block of wood. The next step is -> Send to TRE or Sheperd =)

You don't need to drain the fluid as long as you rear tilted up.

it's 5 bolts to take it off, unbolt the DP from the O2 for access to the bolts.. and yeah, keep the yoke elivated..

helps to use some wire to hold the driveshaft so when you slide off the t-case it won't drop on the ground..
