I've got a 98 eclipse rs and just got a spec stage 1 clutch installed...however, when it's really cold outside and i start up the car there's a kind of rattling sound coming from the tranny which makes me think it's the throwout bearing. Could anybody help me out?

i believe that is clutch chatter and is common with aftermarket clutches... i dunno search clutch chatter on 2gnt.com

Did you use the Throw Out Bearing from the kit or did you get an OEM one? TOBs that come with aftermarket clutches tend to rattle like that. I've noticed this on all kinds of cars.

yea i used to one that came with the new clutch. u think i should get the oem one put back in?

 yeah I've had mine for almost 2 years now I hear every now and then. Does it go away when you push the clutch pedal in? Do you have vibrations on the driver side during acceleration? OMG

yea it goes away when i push the clutch pedal; however, i haven't really noticed any vibrations but that's prob b/c my suspension already gives me that since it's so shitty.

I wouldnt worry about it unless it goes out.

I messed up and used the one with my clutch masters kit, because I was to lazy to go get an OEM bearing. I've put about 40k miles with my TOB chattering like that. Its just a bit annoying, but it usually goes away after the car has warmed up. I wouldnt take the time to go back in and change it until it goes out.

Just realized you're from Greenville. I'm from down the way in Saluda, although I'm in Arkansas now. Just wondering if you're a member of CarolinaDSM.

hey im from greenville too! but im having the same problem after I put an ACT clutch in  so how old r u?

yea dude it's always nice to talk to people from the same area that have the same problem. I'm 20 man, i've never seen u around though. Since u live in Greer, Have u seen my buddy Mikie's car...he's got a green 99 GST with carbon fiber hood and fenders?

i'm having the same problem with my car. when its cold it rattles, goes away when clutch is in or car warms up, and there is no vibration. the only thing is i still have a stock clutch. what does that mean, if anything?
