transmission problems

Alright so I need some help I got my motor and all installed hooked up the new shift assembly now when I try to put it in first or second it won't go all the way to the left it's like something's blocking it but when I take the linkage off the tranny it goes all the way to the left could someone tell me what the problem could possibly be do I need a new tranny of what I checked to make sure nothing was in the way of the linkages an it still does it an it's a 2g gst 5 speed

You didant some how mix up the left/right and up/down cables did you?

No that was the first thing I check to make sure but it's installed correctly could it be that the linkage need to be adjusted

I assume it's not bumping into the lower radiator hose. Does the Select Lever cable have enough throw to get into 1st/2nd? Have someone shift while you watch at the tranny. Then disconnect cables from tranny and hand shift the levers to see what throw you need.

The selector was moving but when I took the cables off it actually moved a lot more
