transmission problems

ok well first it started grinding in 2nd gear so i started going from 1st to 3rd for a couple days and then while i was driving all off my gears started grinding so i pulled over and tranny fluid was pouring out of my tranny. now obviously my tranny is messed up, but i was wondering if im going to have to replace the whole thing or possibly just fix whats wrong with it? if anyone can i help i would appreciate it

Make sure you axle is in the transmission and some how didn't pop out.

that and check the drain plug and if everything seems good check the bottom of the case and see if the trans case is damaged.

well the fluid isnt coming from the axle. and its not the drain plug. im not really sure what its leaking from tho. ill get underneath it right now so i can give more detail as to where the fluid was leaking from. maybe i could even take a pic. also i forgot to mention the car wont move. it just grinds

Hes a GST so hes FWD so no transfer case.

if it is the front differential, what am i looking at to fix it?

depending on the extent of the damage possibly a new transmission. or if it is not really severe you can buy a new front diff, and have the case welded up.

but i dont wanna assume its the front diff, if you have pics we could better judge, of were the leak is coming from.

right on man. thanks. ill try to get some pics or at least some better info on where the fluid was leaking from by tonight. the car is at my buddies house so ill go over there in a few and check it out

here is a pic of where the fluid leaked from. it turned out being a hole that looks like something blew it out. it looks like its something that is bolted to the transmission and not the actual transmission itself. its on the opposite side of where the tranny flushes up and is bolted to the block

yep the looks like my transmission now but my hole is WAY huge, sometime i wonder about these cars, looks like something broke inside there and punched a hole in the casing.

so what is that thing that is bolted to my tranny where the hole is? and can i just replace that? or will i need a whole new transmission?

Seems like the just the front cover is blown.

IF thats the problem, you can easily replace that.

the gold gear that fell off is normal, but looks like something has broke somewhere its difficult to diagnose, is the 3 lockers still there i see the ones circled yelow but red is hard to see.
