transmission problem

It is hard for me to shift in and out of gears without using force. However, when i double pump the clutch it shifts normal. Could this be the tranny or clutch. please help

I have also noticed that the clutch pedal itself is very weakl very little force is needed to push down on it.

I still havent recieved any feedback on this however i will update you guys any way:

I searched the forums and saw that if i adjust the rod to the clutch that it would help. So i took it to a local shop and that was done the clutch pedal is a lot stiffer and the car is drivable now. However, i heard that this procedure isnt good to do for the clutch because there is now FREE PLAY. So i took it to a tranny mechanic and they diagnosed it and told me i need new clutch, new master slave cylnder, and new master cylnder. The car has 40,000 miles how can this be. The mechanic had told me that the tranny fluid was contaminated. He quoted me prices from Mitsu which added up to about $750. I searched this site and founds cheaper prices.

1) Where can i get cheaper (above) parts?

2) Can my clutch and all that really need to be replaced or is he pullin a fast one?

Well if air or dirt got into the system items that he quoted you for could have been damaged however, if you do the clutch pedal adjustment yourself, which is really easy you want as the manual says about an inch of free play on the pedal. The rest, a stock clutch isn't highly priced, but this would be a good time to upgrade if you haven't already. Also, the slave cylinders could be bought at like a napa for a good price. It is also possible to install them yourself although the master cylinder is a pain. So really the price he told you was for labor and all but it seems high for the parts. If you do it yourself you can rule out the clutch if you pull the tranny and inspect it, it might not be damaged your week pedal could be the clutch cylinders. Also you might just have air in them. If you want before doing anything else, bleed your master cylinder as is in the manual and see if your pedal pressure increases. Also, you should take it to a second guy for another opinion on the situation.

so dirt could have caused this? the price he quoted was just parts 475 for clutch 115 for master slave cylnder and another 100 for other cylider. I looked at this site and saw a clutch for 275 so... Do you think i should change the cylanders and see what happens after bleeding clutch. I have already adjusted the pedal and it is alot stiffer.
