I was driving home last night, doing about 70 mph, then the rpms jumped from the usual 2800 t0 3000 rpm , to about 4500 rpm, it felt like i slammed the brakes on the thing, the OD button did not seem to work after that, after that i kept going at around 50 mph, at 3000 rpm, can anyone help me, the car is 93 laser n/t

I guess with the "od button" i can assume it is. i had a similar problem when i refilled my a/t fluid incorrectly. check your fluid level, make sure the cars running and at normal op temp, and on a level ground. is it reddish, brownish, smelt burnt, foaming?

You lost overdrive aka 4th gear. This happened to my tranny in my 91 Laser RS turbo and after about 3 months of driving with no OD, the tranny finally gave up for good.

Good thing for me is I just finished putting a new tranny in this weekend and everything is as good as new until the next problem arises.

Yeah that could be it, and end clutch is really easy and less then a 100bucks to replace. unless you got serious trans damage, that should be all you need to replace you o/d gear.
