i just rebuilt my trans and i want to paint it but what paint can i use that wont rub off and wont run when sprayed with brake cleaner ive tried engine heat paint but that dones not work really good

The trans is aluminum. If you prep it properly, the paint will stick. And so will clear-coat. I'd actually like to see someone succeed in annodizing one. I think that'd look cool in black.

Anodizing alum. castings is hard to do without spots. It will be cool if it would work:thumb: . Also anodizing deforms some types of alum. So try it on a test part first. Powder coating would work, its tuff stuff. I think you would have to take everything apart. Anodizing gets put in chemicals, powder coating gets put in an oven. I don't know how the rubber seals would hold up in the oven.

I just sprayed mine with that engine block paint, painted black and put on about 1 can, it looks totally sick!! :thumb: I haven't installed it yet but moving it around the garage it seems as durable as you'd expect.

Got pics?

I was thinking of dropping my tranny just to clean it and paint it black. When I got it back from Shep it looked real nice but over the year the silver paint kinda looks like crap. If I ever need another rebuild the housing will get powercoated black for sure.

This thread is old, I bought this car from him. I wouldnt even give him any help anyway he's a tool. It's the worst car i've ever bought. There's probibly not one thing on the car that's been properly built. Clutch lasted 1000 miles due to bolts on pp comming lose, trans leaks, bad valve seals on the new head, low compression, rebuilt trans grinds, everything squeaks, burns oil, etc.

Nice for a fully rebuilt engine and trans eh? It's the engine and trans that are giving me the most crap. Talking about a hack job.

Dude, why not take it to PM's with the guy, don't stalk him. I realize it sucks that he sold you a car with problems and you're pissed.
