ok, I have a automatic transmission gauge its plumbed into the tranny line after the cooler. I had to take the car into the shop to have the rear main seal replaced. Since then, the gauge as soon as you start the car will read max temp. Shoots right up.

the metal fittings have a wire that is wrapped around the part that screws into the pan, but i simply just hooked it up and grounded it. Worked great before the shop got the car. Doesn't seem like the hooked it up differently, but since then thats what the gauge does.

Would it be the ground isn't good? (I would think it wouldn't move up at all if thats the case)

would it be the actual signal wire that might be cut/crimped somewhere?

any suggestion would be great. Deff gotta have this working agian.

I will check the power wire for the sensor that leaks back to the guage. I sure hope thats it. While I was driving off from the shop I thought man either they hooked the fluid line back up wrong and the fluid is that hot before going to the cooler or the guage is not working. They shouldnt have touched the sensor, on the hoses the sensor was tapped into. The sensor is in metal/brass fittings, so i doubt it was damages.

Hopefully just the sensor wire needs to replaced.

Some sensors will fail high and some will fail low it all depends how it fails and how they set up the gauge. A lot of the temp sensors measure the resistance across the sensor. The warmer it gets the less resistance. If the sensor failed so there is little resistance acrossed it the gauge will read high.
 
gotcha, so check and make sure the ground wire is not touching the sensor wire/signal wire.

I will have to look at that tonight.
